Is Testogel taking me down??!!...And I was doing so well :/
« on: April 25, 2019, 02:22:09 PM »

Hia girls!

Hope you are all coping with the rollercoaster.

So I started my Testogel on Sunday, that's 5 days of a small pea size.

I seem to be on a rapid decline since yesterday, My symptoms started with palpitations, running hot in bed(not in a sexy way you understand)and then feeling frozen. Nausea, a silent migraine, feeling weak, tummy turbulence, bit like mild period pains(not had a period for 8 months)and headaches plus crap energy. I had to cancel my plans for the day and have taken to bed.

Wondering has anyone else had these symptoms on starting Testogel and do they subside?
I have noticed on my hormone journey so far that I am pretty sensitive to even low doses of hormones.
Should I go with alternate days or pack it in altogether bcz it's messing with me?

Obv I can't be sure it's Testogel, but as CLKD has taught me, it probably is hormones of one kind.

I'm on my 3rd month of Utrogestan and due to take the last one pill on Sunday, and hoping I will have a withdrawal bleed this time as haven't had for the past 2 months since starting.

My regime is
1 pump Oestrogel daily
14x 100mg Urogestan.
1 petit pea sz Testogel blob as of last Sunday

Thinking it's either the pms(Utro effects kicking in)or Testogel causing the symptoms, which are all new starting yesterday.

Thanks for any help.

TD

Hiya Turkish Delight ( I'm wondering, are you full of Eastern Promise ? )
Don't know about the T gel but maybe that's not the issue. One pump of Oestrogel seems low although I see that you're on a low cyclical dose of Utrogestan. Any reason for these low doses?

Hi Michele!

I am indeed full of Eastern promise...wink!  :veil:

Re low dose hrt, that's due to my mum having had breast cancer so gyne wants me on the minimum effective dose.

So far it's keeping my bothersome symptoms at bay.

Feel like I'm mostly talking to myself apart from the lovely Michele of course  :-*

So I think I can also answer myself here as well, as have had more of a period than a breakthrough bleed last night. So symptoms were down to this and not Testogel.  :yipi:

I do still have a question...I have this heavyish bleed which started last night on day 10 of my Utrogestan taken vaginally but supposed to take another 4 days more to finish the cycle.

Should I forget taking the last 4, as it seems to be doing it's thing already? I didn't take last nights one, but just after some 2nd opinion as to whether this is the best way forward.

Thanksy

I would Turkish delight,  but that's just me. Re Testogel (I'm on testim) I have to limit it to 3 blobs a week otherwise I get negative side effects. Less is more I find x

I think the advice is that you should carry on taking it regardless of bleeding x

Oh right, thanks Perinowpost and Dotty!

I scanned the Utro leaflet for the info but nothing there that I could see.

Will resume it tonight then, where would I be without you all helping me.

Hi TD- no, keep taking the Utrogestan for the specified time regardless of your bleeding pattern. Got you re the low oestrogen dose. You won't have much buildup at that dose but you do need to keep taking the Utrogestan.
Some women have the bleed whilst they're still taking it, some a few days after they stop. I've always had a bleed 4 days after stopping but for 3/4 months this year, it's been erratic and unpredictable so much so I was sent for an urgent scan. Thankfully all ok but it does put the fear of death in you.
Regardless of your bleeding pattern, I would stick to the current prescribing doses until you can discuss further with your gynaecologist. X

Just to add that testosterone is on the pathway for steroid sythesis in the body in certain body tissues - that is how we get our estradiol mainly ( also through estrone). However just because this happens it does not follow that addition of exogenous (replacement) testosterone is converted to estradiol as it depends on all the enzymes, the tissues and the feedback mechanisms operating. As far as I know there is very little work on this in women. The only study I have read is the paper produced when the T patch Intrinsa was launched. In this study estradiol levels were unaffected by the testosterone. However the women in the trials ( up to a year) were also taking oestrgoen ( I think  - need to check but v busy atm!) and therefore there is the possibility that if you are not taking oestrogen it may convert to estradiol - but I don't know of any info on this? Mostly you read stuff that says it converts to oestrogen - which of course it does - but trials and adding extra T is a totally different scenario. If anyone has seen any studies on this would be great to post - I don't have time to look though!

Here is the monograph on Intrinsa if anyone wants to read it - I haven't looked in detail recently!
https://www.ema.europa.eu/en/documents/scientific-discussion/intrinsa-epar-scientific-discussion_en.pdf

Hope this helps...

Also hope you are feeling better Turkish Delight! :)

In haste...

Hi, I'm on Trostran 2% and I'm not quite sure what to expect.  I had a total hysterectomy a couple of years ago so I'm just on estrogen HRT but a high dose.  I can't tell what side effects are from which treatment, the only thing different is loads of spots which I never had before.  The problem is that there's so long between appointments there's no way to know how or if I should change the amount I use, it's all so confusing....

Thank you everyone who took the time to help me   :foryou:

This thing has knocked me out. It's a mega period situation.

I still have all the above symptoms with added heavy bleeding and a band of pain all around my trunk, not enjoying this :/

Funny how everybody who hears I'm on only 1 pump Oestrogel comments of how low this dose is, but it seems to have created a massive cushion in my uterus that's now been shedding heavily for the past 2 days and still going strong. Ok it took the 3rd month before it shed but I wouldn't mind a 3-month gap in future cz this situation is crippling me in literally every way.
