Feeling anxious & worried
« on: June 04, 2019, 08:39:38 AM »

Could I ask you ladies for some help & advice please as i am reall worried and my gp is useless
I am using everol conti patches (3.2 mg estrodiol, 11.2mg norethisterone) I have become more & more anxious over the last few months & have continuing hair loss. At first I didn't really notice but the last month or so it's become really noticeable. Losing hair when washing and brushing especiallyaround the temple area. I also don't think my hair is growing as I usually dye my roots and I have hardly any new hair. I have also noticed soft downy hair on my face,  I had blood tests but they came back normal. Thyroid is ok as I'm on thyroxcine, b12, ferritin normal. My testosterone came in at 1.1 nmol/L. I asked my gp if i could change the hrt or add something else but she said the patches only come in one dose. She is going to try and refer me to a meno clinic if she can find one in my area if not I may have to go private. She has also prescribed Venlafaxine starting at 1x 37.5mg twice a day but im cutting them in half as im not sure i want to be on ad's. MY ANXIETY IS BAD ENOUGH WITHOUT THE WORRY OF HAIR LOSS ADDING TO IT!
Any help or advice will be gratefully received. TIA X

Hi Charlie62, welcome (I recently joined myself). I also take Thyroxine and on HRT - Everol sequi. For a number of years I have been losing alot of hair & hair looked in poor condition (so much so I hopped my long hair into a bob, also helped re less sweaty around neck area). Since January I have reassessed my diet generally and eating much healthier, greatly cut back on sugar (I have a sweet tooth), I have one day a week where I allow myself to have something sweet. The menopause chef is quite helpful for diet advice as is this forum/website. I have added flaxseed to my diet and seeds, my nails are in amazing condition and my hair is so much better (still losing some hair but OH doesn't need to use sticky roll to lift hair off my pillow anymore). Over the years I have tried various 'thickening' shampoos, not sure for the money whether they are worth it but I've been using Bumble & Bumble thickening shampoo (look out for when they have offers).
I also started on AD before started on HRT (GP contacted gynae specialist for advice before prescribing HRT), I have felt a definite improvement in my mood/energy levels. I hope you start to feel some improvement soon.

Thank you foxylady. I'm wondering whether to ask if a sequi would be better for me. I didn't want a bleed but I think I need to try something else, perhaps the conti isn't the right thing for me? The anxiety is crippling atm. I have quite a good diet, varied & mostly gf as I find wheat bloats me & makes me tired. I am trying a thickening shampoo atm but will look out for the 1 you suggested. I'm off to the hairdressers for some advice too

Hi Charlie62, let us know what the hairdresser suggests/if anything! In relation to symptoms it is very individual and trial and error, what works for one doesn't necessarily work for another and it can change over time what works, I have GP review tomorrow as I'm 3 months into HRT, thinking of asking if i could be prescribed a 25mcg patch on top of the everol sequi 50 as symptoms initially improved but sleep rubbish/inconsistent again and no side effects noticed.

Thank you birdy. I will definitely have a look at the website. The gp said my testosterone was within the limits so said I don't need it. I have a follow up appt in 3 weeks but I think I will arm myself with some info and go back earlier

Birdy, i have seen 3 different female gps at my surgery. None of them seem to have a clue. One of them only wanted to prescribe ad's for my anxiety & didn't believe it was menopause related, i was taking femoston conti but it didn't agree with me so prescribed everol 2/10 without knowing it was sequi, which is why i went on the patches.I explained about the info on here to my gp about the different types of hrt thst women take, she dudnt have a clue 😕
