Anxiety and depression
« on: April 24, 2019, 10:13:51 PM »

Hi,
I am going through hell at the moment. I was told by GP 10 yrs ago I was at the start of perimenopause. I still have a tiny bit of blood every month.
However,  I have always had terrible pmt, so depressed and anxious.
But the last 2 years have been horrendous. The anxiety and depression is through the roof.. My GP is not really helpful.
I read Carol Voderman experience regarding perimenopause and I have exactly the same symptoms she had.
But unlike Carol Voderman I cannot afford to see a private doctor. And get a tailer made prescription.
Please help...

 :welcomemm:

PMT can be eased by eating every 3 hours, as advised by the National Association for Pre-menstrual syndrome - saved my Life in the 1990s.  That's even in the night ;-)

Browse round.  You could speak to your Practice Nurse for more support or talk to a local Pharmacist about what is available to ease symptoms, also some find keeping a mood/food/symptom diary of use.

Let us know how you get on.

Are you on HRT? Sounds as though you'd benefit from it. If your gp won't prescribe it see a different one or ask for a referral to a meno specialist. Must be meno not gynaecologist.

Hello booblet- as Birdy points out, you don't need to see someone privately. Go see your GP ( print out the Nice guidelines for reference if you need them ) and speak to them about the possibility of starting HRT. You sound as if you may benefit from it but be prepared to accept that it's not a miracle cure and may require months of trial and error before finding a regime that suits you.
The Oestrogel and Utrogestan that Carol Voderman appears to be on is available through the NHS but don't assume that your doc will offer these first time round, so you may have to specifically ask for them. They suit some people but not everyone and it can take time to find what's right for you.

Thank you so much for your replies. You are all so kind.
I am defo going to try eating every 3 hours, this suggestion did recap my memory...re:helps with pmt: If I remember correctly, it was loosely based on carbohydrates? Also, I have noticed that if I do go over the 3 hours (not having anything to eat), I get all the symptoms of low blood sugar.
It's just remembering to eat!

Yes, hrt does seem an option, although I have been reading a brilliant book, by an American doctor about natural Progesterone? I don't think I'm aloud to state author and title??

Regarding Carol Vorderman, it's great that I can get the two medications listed. I am going to see my GP for discussion.

I suffer from many allergies, my Excema is so bad at the moment, my allergin levels has always been high...I also have b12, folate and Vit d deficiency. As well as underactive thyroid and adrenal insufficiency. And suffer with M. E.

I am sure that there is a correlation with severe pmt and severe perimenopause corrolated with severe allergies and all the other illnesses listed above??
Is there anybody else similar??

And yes, diet is so important with bad pmt and perimenopause... I am trying to eat a lot better.....
Just a question for CLKD... What does Meno mean? Do you mean a menopause doctor?
Not opened link yet from Peperminty yet.
