Hi,

I have been in late peri, nearly 50y, and suspect my worst symptoms may have been last year (but with this sort of thing one really does not know and I could be wrong). I am not on HRT yet and initially wanted to see how I get to the post menopause stage before potentially looking into HRT. Local GPs are usually overworked, and I am now thinking of getting a second opinion on the longer term perspective also for bone health etc from a specialist. I do not mind a private clinic if it is a good one. Dr Louise Newson is apparently very good but a bit out of the way for me and I was wondering whether any of you can recommend clinics in or near London or a bit North of London. I know there is a list on this website but I am keen to hear whether any of you can recommend some in particular? Many thanks. AG

If you look at Louise Newson's site, there are listings of specialists in other areas. I see one in the North London suburbs who I got off the list.  She's been really helpful.

I have had 1 appointment with Dr Lieberman at the Whittington in Archway. He was quite easy to talk to and willing to listen. He thinks a lot of this Forum.  Can't make any comparison because I haven't tried a private one.

The consultant I see in Salisbury used to work with Nick Panay in London. I believe he wrote the guidelines for NICE that GPs should use

Hi AG - you mentioned getting a second opinion on HRT - what was your first opinion? Have you had advice that suggests HRT is not advisable? There really is no need to go privately - there is a wealth of information out there - from the NICE Guidelines, to BMS tools and fact-sheets, and similar from Women's Health Concern, and lots of scientific papers and evidence based consensus statements. I can put some links to some if you can't find them by googling. Also the information on this website (pink and black menus) and Dr Louise Newson - My Menopause Dr....

I would read up as much as you can and then decidee if you want to take HRT =- then go along to your doc and ask for it! Provided you have no medical contra-indication then it is very straightforward. Sometimes takes a few goes to get one that suits you but once you've done that - you should feel a lot better!

Yea Nick Panay was a member of the menopause guidelines development group of approx 18 members that drew up the NICE Guidelines. Also he runs an NHS clinic at the Chelsea and Westminster ( I think he does the NHS one still?). There is quite a long wait for referral (from your GP) I gather but if you are not in a hurry then worth the wait. There would have to be a need for referral though so the first port of call is your GP - if you haven't done so already.

Good luck :)
