Bleeding after removing everol patch
« on: April 01, 2019, 06:06:03 AM »

Hello
I've been on everol 50 sequel for about three years.
I take provera for 14 days a month.
Up until Christmas I've never had a bleed. After Christmas I started having a bleed towards the end of the provera, which stopped as soon as I stopped taking the tablet each month.
This month I started bleeding quite a lot on day 9 of provera so stopped taking it. The bleeding lasted 5 days till yesterday then stopped.
I removed my patch last night as I want to try without hrt for a while.
Today the bleeding has started again. Is this normal?
I do have Addison's disease and the bleeding during the provera stage started after I reduced my steroid dose.
I'm 52 and post menopause.

Hi ollie51

 :welcomemm:

When you say you are on "Evorel 50 sequel" do you mean you are using Evorel 50 (ie oestrogen only patch) all the time and then Provera for two weeks a month, or are you taking Evorel 50 followed by two weeks of Evorel conti AND Provera? (Because Evorel sequi is 2 weeks of Evorel 50 followed by 2 weeks of Evorel conti).

I will assume it's the former? A small proportion of women do not get a bleed at all on sequential HRT and because you are taking Provera for 2 weeks of the month then your lining has not been building up, therefore no bleed especially if you are post-menopause. A bleed under this regime is normally nothing to worry about - however in your case as you have been bleed free despite a sequi regime fo that length of time I would suggest that a sudden heavy bleed should be checked out.

As you say maybe it is the medication you are taking for Addision's that is coming into play - and sorry I can't comment on that but an endocrinologist should be able to advise as well as a menopause specialist. Your doc should hopefully refer you for a scan?

Hello
Thank you for your reply.
I was on everol 50 patch all the time then added provera in for two weeks a month.
It was after I reduced my addisons meds' that I started having a monthly bleed.
I couldn't tolerate everol conti so meno specialist suggested the provera on a three monthly regime.
I changed to monthly as I was sleeping better when taking provera.
Will see the dr this week.
Thank you again
