Scan results
« on: March 19, 2019, 11:28:48 PM »

Hi Everyone
In my last post in November here https://www.menopausematters.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,41884.msg660304.html#msg660304 I said I would let people know the results of my uterine scan when I had them.

A quick update first: I discharged myself from the Panay clinic and back to my GP after the last appt there in November.
I gradually increased my Estradot patches from 75mcg to 100mcg - I pushed through the temporary increase in bloating and breast pain (EPO helps). I have been on 100mcg for a couple of months and can finally sleep without flushes most nights. I have the occasional mild flush overnight (perhaps one night a week) but not usually enough to keep me awake for long, and the occasional mild flush during the day, maybe once or twice a week. I feel 'normal' again too. I am aware that 100mcg of oestro is considered a high dose BUT, if I don't absorb well (as my blood tests and continuing symptoms suggested) as the doc said "high dose is a meaningless term".
I have been using Utrogestan 100mg P.V. every other day for several months now.
The Panay clinic ordered the scan because I am not taking Utro daily.

My scan yesterday showed nothing untoward. My lining is patchy and irregular but this is apparently quite common after menopause. I am glad that, for me, this regime seems to be working fine with no build up of uterine lining. Perhaps this will give others who are struggling with taking Utro every day (as I was) some hope in changing their regime, with their doc's advice/knowledge so they can have a scan too :)

Ha ha - no! But I haven't shared these results with a medical professional yet. My GP will get the results soon but I am certainly not schlepping back up to London to say 'i told you so' to the doc in the Panay clinic  ;D

To be fair, I am just one person so hardly a research study BUT as I said, I hope this encourages others who may be struggling on the 'standard protocol' to keep tweaking - while keeping their doctor informed - until they find a regime that works for them, having scans if needed. And I hope it encourages others who may have been to a specialist clinic hoping for an individual approach only to be told to stick to the standard protocols.   :)

It's the same with ADs ; sometimes I need to tweak my dose in order to support my brain.  Trial and Error can be tiring  :-\

Do you keep a diary?

No I don't keep a diary but I sometimes note if I have any flushes on a calendar. I've noticed the very few I have now tend to happen after I've played sport (I guess because exercise uses up oestrogen) or if the patch has come loose a bit (I find Estradot is not as sticky as other brands but do not irritate my skin and are smaller) or just after the end of one patch's viability, or if I've been emotionally upset about something. TBH the symptoms are so much better, I don't feel the need to document anything  :)

I have a calendar - one side is his, the other mine : if it ain't on the calendar, we aren't doing it  ;D. I make a note if my anxiety is troublesome; 1-5, 5 being when I have to take an emergency tablet.

Glad you have had such a good result thus far!   :foryou:

Great.  I think you're right - when you say 'high' dose it can kind of imply bad because of all the 'lowest dose for shortest possible time' stuff we've been fed over the years, but in reality you just need to take whatever dose is required to make a difference .... otherwise what's the point.

I wish I could tolerate the vag Utro continuosly but even alt days is too much for me - I think I would need to do about every fourth day to make it anywhere near bearable!

Not surprising, given that even specialist clinics don't seem to take an individual approach, sisters are doing it for themselves ;)

The doc at the Panay clinic told me that some women are not taking any Utro and winging it! She wasn't best pleased with that, which is understandable. Thankfully I don't need to go that far. I think if we cannot tolerate being on the standard protocol, we ought to have regular scans for our own peace of mind if nothing else :)
