Hi SueLW
Sorry I can't remember if you are post-menopausal? I presume so, otherwise your own cycle could explain the bleeding and a long cycle would not work unless you were late peri?
Have you gone straight to the two month cycle after continuously bleeding and have you had a recent scan? To me it sounds like your womb lining may have been thicker than usual (or thicker than it should have been post-bleed) when you started the two months. If that was the case then it could start shedding sporadically - and this is abnormal uterine bleeding.
That is quite a high dose of oestrogen to go for two months as well - if you are absorbing it well (sounds like you may be if you are passing clots). The other possibility is you could have fibroids or polyps ( or maybe had endometriosis in the past?) which could be aggravated by your long cycle - but I expect you would know this if you've had scans.
What you do now depends on how you feel on this amount of oestrogen and perhaps to some extent how old you are (sorry can't remember that either Sue
) . If you are still pretty young ( in HRT terms ie well under 60) and feeling good on that dose of HRT then it may be that you can't take a longer cycle - but I would get checked out first - by going to your regular doc and seeing if they will refer you for a scan? Not sure how this works if you are under private care too but really they should see you.
Once you've been checked out and depending on the outcome I would go back to a shorter cycle - starting with the 12 days per month and then gradually lengthening it so that you achieve the right balance between feeling good and not having breakthrough bleeding. However of course be guided by your menopause specialist not me as this is just my view based on what I've read and my own experience!
I've been on a long cycle for years - since 2011 I think now. it's usually around 6-7 weeks but occasionally 5 and sometimes 8 depending on what I'm doing. I am on a 62.5 mcg patch so my bleeds are fairly short and manageable. If I went to a higher dose or consistently longer cycle then my bleeds would be heavier and for me in my 60's that's not an option
For the record I have never had abnormal bleeding on this regime except a couple of times after intimacy about 5 years ago, and just recently the last couple of cycles I've had a tiny weeny bit of spotting after about 4 weeks ( and keep meaning to go to doc just to check). Never clots at all even for the withdrawal bleed.
Hope this helps and try not to worry ...
