help
« on: February 20, 2019, 11:42:08 AM »

I am 53 and peri-menopausal.
I have lower abdominal pain, backache and heavy bleeding. I get an urge to go to the toilet and then I bleed quite heavily causing pain. The pain is still there afterwards too.
I am very sore inside and am at my wits end. I have depression too.
Have had a series of blood tests inc. cancer check which have all come back negative.
I have a scan booked for this afternoon - really scared what it may show.
Prior to this bleed I hadn't had a period for 3 months.

Can anyone help

Yep.  ........ and breath.  HORMONES  >:(  ::)

Take a list to the appt. with you.  My periods waxed and waned, fortunately the heavy clotting that I had suffered with disappeared.  There is a drug which can ease heavy bleeding so do discuss at your scan.    I also felt as though my bottom and vagina would fall out  :o when I had periods  >:(

What ever it shows can be dealt with.  It's the not knowing that raises anxiety levels!  Let us know how you get on.

What do you take for the depression?

Hi thank you for your reply.
I take citalopram for my depression.
My main worry is that I seem to bleed when I urinate - surely that's not right. :'(

Sorry I mis-understood.  You haven't a period happening but pink wee?

This may be vaginal atrophy.  Do read our threads .  As oestrogen levels drop the body may become dry - inside and out  :o  :(.  Including the vagina, deep in the ears, nostrils, eyes, skin.  VA mimics urine infection-type symptoms *really* well.  So appropriate treatment is necessary to ease those feelings.

Citalopram is useful, you may need a hike in dosage if depression becomes bothersome.

R U going to the appt. alone?  Take a list.  Let us know how you get on.

Had my scan.
Get the results on 4th March. But overheard that I have fibroids.
I seem to burn inside and have lower pelvic pain and backache.  Sometimes when I have passed urine  I notice blood. My urine is clear from uti.
I just do not understand what is going on.
I am scared to have surgery - have a phobia of General anaesthetic.

Hi Dougal.
I'm sorry to hear your problems.
I can't comment on the endometriosis nor the ablation, but the VA is quite normal.
Didn't the doctor offer you anything for the VA?
There are creams available, either on-line, or you can buy from Boots, = yes products, Vagisan, a number of different creams are available to help with VA. And they really do help.
I'm sure someone will post soon who has been through the same as you. Take care. Xxx

Thank you Jillydoll and Birdy for your replies.
I didn't realise that the peri menopause could cause so many problems, problems that I have not heard off.
Feel relieved to know that VA affects other parts of your body that I didn't know.

Do read our threads about vaginal atrophy.  Make notes.  Ring your Surgery and ask for appropriate treatment.  Do not be fobbed off, the sooner you begin treating the atrophy the better.

Yep.  You are in good company  ;)  :foryou: and do check patches for HRT as this may be the way to go.
