Childrens names
« on: February 09, 2019, 05:42:47 PM »

My friend came round the other day and brought her small grand daughter called Molly.  Her sister is called Rosie.  i know old names like this have been popular for several years and I also know small girls called Maisie, Ruby, Olive, Ivy, Flora and Martha.

Makes me wonder when names from the 50s and 60s will come back into fashion.  i'm thinking of names like Karen, Sharon, Anne, Marian, Shirley, Jane, Deborah, Janice, Christine and so on for girls and boys names that you never hear now like Kevin, Shane, Alan, David, Brian, Keith, Paul, etc.

A carer at Mum's home has just gone off on leave and is expecting a son and is going to call him Peter.  That's another name you seldom here nowadays.

A cousin twice removed called her daughter Ivy - born in November.  That's too old fashioned :-(.

10 years ago I called my chickens Maude, Mabel and Martha ........

My middle name is Olive  :-X

When I gave birth the first time my GP said, what ever name you pick make sure it's one that will look good on a CV.

Very sensible advice.

One has to remember too that the name should be easy to spell and if in a line: C[atherine]R[uby]A[melia]Percival........ be careful what you wish for  ;)

My theory is names do an 80 year cycle before coming back.  Arthur is one of them, Pippa Middleton has called her son Arthur so watch this space for lots more.

My middle name is Marie, I've always hated it x

Pennyfarthings list of names sounds like a teacher calling my school register  ;D

I've often wondered what it's like to have a name that's not pronounced as its spelt, a few years ago it was very popular around hear to have Irish girls names, to me I cannot read the name and understand how it's pronounced, Caoimhe is one that I would be totally wrong trying to pronounce, (it's prounounced Keva).
