Menopause clinic appointment cancelled for the third time
« on: February 04, 2019, 04:17:10 PM »

I was referred for an appointment in December that was cancelled and moved to January, that one was cancelled and moved to next week but today I have a letter with a new date of 26th March.

My own GP can't prescribe Evorel patches because her system won't allow her to prescribe utrogestan.

I currently have my prescription from a private GP and whilst the prescription is cheaper than NHS the consultation is £85 and I've been twice already!

I want advice on Jaydess vs Mirena, my GP is useless and the private menopause specialist GP is not licensed to fit IUDs in this private practice although she can remove them there.

What a mess!

Is Salisbury known for these kind of delays?

If you are in the UK I suggest going to see a local Pharmacist.  Explain that your GP 'won't' prescribe and ask for advice as to how to access this.  Then let us know!

As for the cancellations have you been given a reason?  Time of year; illness; lack of cover; holidays can all hold back appts. particularly at this time of year.  Are U able to take a cancellation at short notice, if so ring the appt.s dept and suggest it.

This is terrible orangefoot. Also you should not have to pay to go privately in the first place. I am sure it is wrong that your doc cannot prescribe Utrogestan? This is a licensed treatment. Doctors can usually override their formulary or whatever restriction is in place, provided they can justify it. My gynae specialist GP is always prescribing me my HRT which does not appear on the formulary for our area, and she also prescribe testosterone off licence as well as extra vaginal oestrogen cream when I already have Vagifem on my prescription. She just overrides the system as far as I can make out - and writes notes. In recent vists she has been saying "as long as I can justify it, it's OK".

I would actually query this with your practice and take it further if you can because it is not right I am sure!

The Jaydess would have to be prescribed off-licence for HRT so you would need a specialist GP - but not a private one I would hope. If you are still under 50 then you could get it for contraception and then ask for oestrogen only preparation - but you would need medical supervision to check all was OK. Depending where you are in UK I think Nick Panay's (NHS and private) clinic at Chelsea and Westminster may prescribe Jaydess off licence? There have been threads on this.

Thanks all. The reason I want to see a specialist is that I had a mirena 2 years ago and it made me feel awful but utrogestan is making me feel even worse.

I've read the threads on jaydess and I hope that a lower dose than mirena with Everol on top will be a more tolerable option.

My GP isn't well informed enough to override her prescribing info so I can't see her helping me make that decision. She is freaked out by my blood disorder but thankfully I have a very supportive and well informed haematology team who have changed my meds so that I can take trans dermal HRT.

I'm in Southampton but ended up with a Salisbury appointment because back in October it was the one with the shortest wait.

I'll try the GP again and also talk to the pharmacy.

You won't believe this but today I've had two letters from the clinic dated 4th Feb.

One is cancelling the March appointment that was confirmed on the 1st Feb and another confirming a new appointment in April.

I will have to go and see the GP again and try to remain calm.

I called the booking team again and the woman there advised me to make a complaint through PALS. This hit someone's desk this morning and I had a call from the clinic offering me an appointment on Tuesday morning. I have also booked an appointment at the sexual health clinic for a Jaydess fitting on the 25th so one way or another I should have advice and a solution by the end of the month. No thanks to my GP.
