I had a Very Nice Letter in November asking me whether I would like to defer my Pension payments or apply.  Well as the Government deferred my payments on my behalf :bang:  3 years ago I have to wait until March anyway - don't know what I will get each month so it will be a suprise.

Now, what to spend it on. Jewellery, bubble bath, new towels, bird food  8) - watch this space?

I have three months to go until I get mine which works out not much less than I take home now but I still can't decide on whether to retire or not! I'm claiming the pension anyway.

I claim everything I am entitled to ;-) 'cos the Government would much prefer that we die prior to getting it as it means more in their kitty  :-X

My NHS Pension is £1,200 per year after 8 years minus 1 months work  >:(  ::).  That's two deliveries of heating oil then so I'm doing my bit  :D

Pleased to hear you're going to claim your pension Taz 2 unless you're mega wealthy why  would anyone defer claiming ? Especially women who had thought they would qualify at 60 until they moved the goal post.
I will definitely be claiming mine if I get to 66  :o

I know a lot of women my age who have died before they even reach pension age so I would never recommend deferring.  get it while you can is my motto.

Why?  When a person pays into both then it is OUR money  :poke2:  Mum certainly doesn't get less: a teacher's Pension, part of Dad's teacher's Pension plus his Government Pension after he died.

I've got an occupational pension but will still receive £164 a week which I think is the full amount? I'm not sure how you're supposed to pay rent of £1000 a month out of that if you're not lucky enough to own your own home mortgage-free?

Private pensions do not reduce your state pension. They are separate.

Taz, I think when you reach state pension age you can claim benefits towards rent etc. if your income is below a certain level. This is another reason why the increase in state pension age causes problems for people who have to wait several extra years to get their pension.  It is also another reason why state pension age is increasing so that benefit payments can be reduced.
