Evorel 50 and Utrogestan
« on: January 07, 2019, 08:53:40 AM »

Hello

I've read a lot but this is my first post. I am 45 and peri-menopausal

I got no help from my GP with my symptoms despite 3 visits. I booked a private appointment with a specialist GP and she was great.

I'd had an awful time with the Mirena a few years ago and was anxious about the progesterone part of HRT. She thinks my estrogen was probably dropping when I had the Mirena and that's what made me feel awful with it even though it's a tiny amount of hormone.

She said I could have estrogen for 3 months without progesterone if I needed to but suggested I use the Evorel 50 for a month and see how I felt and if it really helped she'd work out a way to add the progesterone.

The Evorel fixed me in a month! Sleeping all night and waking when I wanted to, no panic, no palpitations, no flushes, no migraines, left the house with everything I needed first time every time and yay vulva and vagina felt better too!

I had a normal period in December.

So then Utrogestan for 12 days starting on the 1st January.

Day 5 and I was weepy, anxious, shouted at my neighbour, waking up at 3, 5 and 7am feeling panicky all over again.

Day 6 and 7 I've tried it vaginally instead and I'm less angry and weepy but still not sleeping. I'm achy and not myself.

I' know the protocols and I've read all the guidance but I'm still not really understanding why I need the progesterone if I still have enough to have a normal period. Am I adding to what I already have and that's what's making me feel bad again as the balance with estrogen is out again?

Hi, and welcome...

That's how I get on it too - fine for the first 3 or 4 days, then as you describe. I'm trialling it vaginally myself this month. I have a gynae appointment next month when I'll be discussing the Mirena.

Maybe just finish off this month after the 12 days, then try it vaginally next time?

Good luck xx

Thanks

I feel better today after 2 days of using 200mg vaginally. I'll keep going like this and see what happens.

It's so difficult to feel so much better then feel so much worse!
