Query re upping dose of Estradot
« on: January 04, 2019, 04:15:59 PM »

Hi ladies

Happy New Year, am hoping for a bit of advice re my estradot patches - I've been on the 37.5mcg patch for a month and had been feeling quite positive that my bladder symptoms (needing to go a lot and urethral burning) had reduced.  On Tuesday I went up to the 50mcg patch for the first time as prescribed by the Menopause specialist and all has been well, except yesterday and today I've felt my need to go has increased again - no burning, just needing the loo more often which is a bit uncomfortable.  Could this just be my body adjusting to the higher dose and will it settle back down?

Thanks for your advice in advance!

Bladder problems are not a known side effect of transdermal oestrogen - rather, oestrogen is used to treat VA and usually has beneficial effects on bladder function. 37.5 mcg is not a high dose and 50 mcg only medium so I think your bladder problems are probably coincidental. Many women require localised oestrogen in addition to systemic to be completely comfortable, as this specifically targets the vaginal/bladder tissues.  Are you following all the general advice re looking after this area of the body? Check out posts on the "Burning Club" thread started by Dancinggirl in the Praivte Lives section of the forum and you will find advice on what to drink, as well as how to cleanse the area, use of moisturisers and lubricants - it's a long thread! https://www.menopausematters.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,22886.0.html As it has disappeared from the front page I will "bump" it for you. I suggest you ask your doc for Vagifem or estriol cream in addition to systemic HRT.

I hope you start to feel more comfortable soon, and Happy New Year to you too!

Hi Hurdity,

Thankyou so much for replying - logically I didn't think the increased dose could be linked but was worrying as to what could have caused the change.  Maybe it is just a coincidence and I need to be a bit more patient with the HRT as a whole - plus I have had quite a bit of caffeine recently so probably need to be a bit more careful with that too.

Thanks again - just wish these niggling issues would go away! X
