Estrogel
« on: December 13, 2018, 10:00:57 AM »

After having a bad reaction to estrodose long story have previous topic. Can any of you ladies on estrogel describe what your bottle like? As I've eventually managed to get the pharmacist to get me some of proper stuff but the box is the same but it's not a tin canister it's a plastic bottle with wrinkled sticker on. I may be paranoid now but I want to make sure i have the correct one. As still feeling poorly after estrodose.
Thank you

Are the batch numbers and expiry dates the same on the Oestrogel box and the plastic bottle with the wrinkled sticker?

Hello again Donna-paul,

I hope you're feeling a bit better today, how's the migrane?

I think you have the most recent presentation of Oestrogel, according to the website https://www.oestrogel.co.uk/patients/understanding-my-oestrogel-treatment/about-oestrogel/

Maybe they have changed the bottles over the last few years. That website, by the way, is 'new', meaning they are still adapting to the whole business.

Let us know how you get on with this new bottle.

You could always contact Besins and ask them if the container has changed to plastic. Here are their details:

The main issue is the Oestrodose bottle bearing a sticker which says Oestrogel  - this is what we've all been wanting to get to the bottom of.

It really doesn't matter whether one woman prefers Oestrogel and another is happy with Oestrodose, but if Oestrodose is NOT the same as Oestrogel the cannister should bear a label which just says  'Oestradiol gel'.

Until we have any evidence to the contrary we can assume that they are the same! The only unresolved issue is from the supply chain point of view and whether any of the parallel importers either store the gel in very unfavourable conditions or on occasion purchase Oestrodose with a slightly different formulation from outside the EU. I would be very surprised indeed if this was happening with all Oestrodose on a regular basis and is very unlikely. If the patient information leaflet etc all say that it is made by Besins Belgium then this would be fraudulent and a quality control issue, which is why it is important to retian the PIL and  look for the batch number on the plastic carton (of the oestrodose) and in particular report any adverse reactions to the MHRA with this information as well as writing to Besins if an adverse reaction specific to Oestrodose occurs.

It is relabelled Oestrogel because that is what the Besins estradiol gel is called in UK - we do not have Oestrodose on our list of meds! I feel like I'm being a broken record here!

Most of the time we can safely assume from what Besins have said - that they are one and the same - ie one is no more "the real McCoy" than the other.

Donna-paul - whatever the ins and outs of it, I hope you are feeling better now. Try not to worry as this can also impact how you react - justy concentrate on the fact that the gel is working for you, but that you cannot expect to feel perfect every single day - especially at this time of year. Hopefully you will feel well more of the time than not!

I have the shaped bottle with the green lid, it is labelled Oestrogel but the label underneath says oestrodose.
I get upset with people saying it's no different to the one in the straight container with the white lid, Estrogel, because every time I get the oestrodose my symptoms return.
I have ticked along nicely for 8 months on the estrogel but have ended up with oestrodose for the last 4 weeks, my palpitations are back and my VA has flared up, I use it in exactly the same way. I have put in a new prescription and I will go to every pharmacy to track down some Estogel.

Hi Tinkerbell - can I suggest that you report these problems under the yellow card scheme, so that this can be investigated.

https://yellowcard.mhra.gov.uk

If everyone having problems with Oestrodose reported them in this way, the authorities might be able to discover what is causing the differences between Oestrogel and Oestrodose.

I have reported it to yellow card and they have come back to ask more questions. I'm saying they are different wether it's weaker and got some type of filler! I've now been of it 2 days and my bad head is going and my hot flushes are getting better and aniexty. I'm only on a low dose so it won't be 100% the worst thing for me was the awful head and it's happened twice now when I been given estrodose I will never be taking it! I have also sent email to Besins to confirm have they changed estrogel packaging from tin canister to plastic and had no reply so I really hope I'm taking the proper gel!

Hello ladies,

Well done, Donna-paul.

Tinkerbell, I agree with Jenna. If you and others having issues with Oestrodose would report them under the Yellow Card Squeme, this will certainly be investigated.
