Progesterone implants?
« on: October 17, 2018, 06:47:23 PM »

Is there such a thing as a progesterone implant? I'm still struggling with getting my HRT 'tuned' and can't get the patches to stick, but really want to take the oestrogen transdermally so the Dr has suggested having the Mirena coil refitted for the progesterone (had it removed as was told I didn't need it anymore cause had gone through the menopause!)but I can't stand the thought of the pain - I haven't had any children and when they opened my cervix I felt like I was going to die - so if there is an option of having an implant instead I'd much prefer it?

Only the contraceptive one I think:
https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/contraception/contraceptive-implant/

That would probably give you much more progestogen than you want or alternatively may not be sufficient for hRT ie adding your own oestrogen separately. You would have to seek advice on that.

Alternatively there are tablets which can be taken along with transdermal oestrogen - Provera - see here: https://www.menopausematters.co.uk/to_progestogens.php or micronised progesterone ( Utrogestan) which can be taken orally or off-licence vaginally (as I do). I've always been nil-by-mouth for my HRT and it's worked brilliantly.

Hope this helps.
