Testogel UK

Hi everyone, I've just managed to get testostogel prescribed by a Gynae consultant at the menopause clinic. I wasn't given a dosage amount so I'm going to use a pea size amount daily and see how it goes. I've been suffering from a lot of physical pain which is suspected fibromyalgia, horrible pmt, weight gain, no libido, lack of energy etc. I had my hormones tested regularly over the last year and the only thing that kept showing up was extremely low testosterone so after trailing oestrogen tablets, then oestrogen patch with no improvement in conditions the Consultant was willing for me to try out the testosterone.I already have a Mirena iud so progesterone covered Thought I would start a wee post and do updates as I go. Any advice appreciated X

Hi Laylamae

 :welcomemm:

Is it the Testogel pump pack you've been given or the sachets? If the sachets - yes use a small pea-sized blob daily, but the pump pack is about half as strong again so use a smaller amount - very small pea-sized blob! It is appalling that a gynae at a menopause clinic did not give indications as to dosage especially as these preparations are not licesned for women so the dosage given on the leaflets is for men! Please go back and ask them - even though our advice is perfectly sensible - because they should know they are not doing their job properly and potentially putting women at risk. Was this an NHS or private clinic?

Could some of your side efects be due to the Mirena and also have you checked for other things like thyroid (underactive thyroid casues weight gain and fatigue etc) or vit/mineral deficiencies etc too? Blood tests are not a relaible indicator of T levels in women but in the absence of any other explanation lack of libido combined with the other symptoms of fatigue, fibromyalgia syndrome etc - this could be the missing link.

Oestrogen tablets can cause loss of libido due to increase in a substance called SHBG which mops up free testosterone making it unavailable in the body. Also some anti-depressants depress libido too!

You need to keep on with the T and don't be tempted to increase the dosage - full effects can take up to 4-6 months...

Hope this helps and let us know how you get on - yes do give us updates!
