Oestro absorption - advice please
« on: August 13, 2018, 08:04:10 AM »

Hi everyone,
Would appreciate some advice on oestro dose and absorption ahead of my clinic apptmnt in Sept.  So am currently on 4 pumps oestrogel and 100mg utro vaginally for 12 days.  I recently had to increase the oestro from 3 pumps because of hot flushes starting to creep in.  I've realised there is a pattern emerging - I start on an oestro dose (e.g 2 pumps per day 2 years ago) and it's all good for about 10 months, then I start getting hot flush, depression and insomnia symptoms. So I increase by 1 x pump per day and all is good again for about 10 months until the symptoms start again. I was identified as early meno and now 46 yrs so not really sure where I am in the whole process but with recent oestro blood levels around 160 I'm thinking there might be an absorption problem??
So:
  • is there a bio-identical alternative to oestrogel in either patch or pill form?  I would prefer patch as anything going through my digestive system creates havoc
  • is it possible that the increased utro dose (I was orginally on 100mg orally for 7 days) is messing with my oestro levels and so maybe I should look at reducing everything again?  Might help with the hell of progesterone withdrawl too?
  • is it usual to need to keep increasing oestro dose as you approach meno? and what happens after meno - presumably for safety you need to gradually reduce the dose?
Sorry if this has been covered before - couldn't find a thread with this info on searching.  Grateful for any tips and advice x

Hi becca

I'm an Oestrogen only user.

I used gel at first and gradually increased to 4 pumps then found I needed 6 to stay symptom free.
My GP was aware of the extras doses but when even that didn't control things, I swapped to patches and only needed 75 mcg (so = to 3 pumps)
My patch dose also needed to increase gradually but when I was using 100 mcg and adding in gel too my GP referred me to Nick Panay's Clinic for supervision.

Having tried several patches I have stuck ;) with Estradot which are super sticky and much smaller than any others I tried (thanks Hurdity)

I'm sure you will feel better and more reassured being supported by Specialists who will tailor HRT to suit your personal needs.

Good luck  :)

Thanks for the tip Salad - do you know if Estradot is a bio-identical HRT?

Hi all of the oestrogen only patches are body identical.

The combined patches contain synthetic progesterone . X
