Private Menopause specialist with no waiting list
« on: June 29, 2018, 09:48:17 PM »

Hi everyone
I've been looking at all the clinics with menopause specialists but they all seem to have 2-4 months waiting lists or require a GP referral. Can any of you lovely ladies recommend a private menopause specialist where I could get an appointment within two weeks and without a GP referral? I'll go anywhere but am running out of hrt pills I am on, GP refusing to play ball despite Dr Currie's intervention. Things have been dragging on for two months now and I will go into overnight menopause once I run out. I know this for sure because I've been rationing this last packet and it only takes 3 days for symptoms to kick in like crazy.

Before HRT I had a horrendous time with insane non stop hot flushes, cold shivers and palpitations day and night, nearly had a nervous breakdown. 12 showers a day, 6 at night was the norm. I never slept longer than an hour, and the lack of sleep was killing me. It all started quite suddenly at the age 44, I soldiered on for nearly 2 years, then started hrt and it sorted all symptoms like magic.

I've noticed there are no menopause specialists listed in Wales, I'd literally go anywhere but need it soon, have to avoid it all coming back. I'm self employed, also have to drive a lot for work, so need to be safe at the wheel and keep my sanity. Cannot imagine going back to all those symptoms

Thank you so much in advance

What hrt are you on ? Why is your gp not prescribing ?
If there's no reason not to prescribe there is a reputable online pharmacy that will prescribe once you meet the criteria in the form of a questionnaire x

Dr Jane Wilkinson has a reasonably short waiting list. Much shorter than Louise Newson's. She has a clinic in Wirral and in Chester. Her website is Menopause Wellbeing.

Thank you Wilks
I'll check it out. May I ask, do you have to go back after the initial appointment before the hrt prescription is given?

Thank you

Hi,
At my appointment, we established that the low dose hrt that I was already on was too low, so she advised a higher dose but I also changed from evorel sequi to Estradot and utrogestan. The dr gave me the choice of paying for a private prescription or waiting for her to write to my GP. I had a private prescription as it was quicker, but she also wrote to my GP anyway so all subsequent prescriptions have been nhs via my GP.
I guess it depends what she advises as to whether you can go home with a prescription the same day. She does follow-up appointments over the phone unless you want to see her face to face again.

Hi Ladies

Thank you for your replies
I will contact the clinics and book myself in, but I don't know how to get through the weeks ahead - I only have 2 weeks worth of Elleste Duet left.

I had an awful time with menopause for two years before I started hrt, the Elleste gave me my life back. Been on it for 10 months but because I was 2 years post menopause when I started it, the Sequential HRT was not ideal - due to not enough progesterone- it caused simple hyperplasia without atypia, causing spotting and erratic bleeds. I should have been put on continuous combined HRT.

In any case I only have a 6mm endometrial thickening and at my age - 47 now- and with the sequential HRT its very common apparently and simple hyperplasia without atypia very unlikely to turn cancerous.

Progesterone treatment is recommend - ideally Mirena coil, and while Dr Currie says completely safe to prescribe oestrogen patches with it, the hospital consultant wants no estrogen at all and GP does not dare to go against. Because it all takes so long, continueus combined tablets would be ideal in the meantime and Dr Currie wrote to both the Gp and the consultant, but they have been dragging their feet, and fobbing me off.

The only choice they are really giving me is to plunge me into overnight menopause. I cannot imagine going back to hot flushes every 10-15 minutes, followed by cold shivers, awful palpitations, never being asleep for longer than an hour, it was killing me.

And two weeks ago when I started rationing the pills, I discovered that after missing 2 pills  the symptoms came back.

I have taken all the print outs to the doctor, including research but no result.
Look forward to hearing your thoughts xx

AndieKC I am just posting to say good luck.. I am new here and new to HRT (I waited too long!) so I have nothing of any value to offer... just good luck from the bottom of my heart. I'm self employed and Meno symptoms have plagued my progress... I feel for you xxx

I saw Tony Mander in Oldham (Manchester) in less than a week. He has a clinic there once every 2 weeks. I saw him for testosterone, he only uses an implant so doesn't prescribe gel. We discussed my oestrogel/utro but as my GP prescribes it I didn't ask him for a prescription.
