Hello Ladies

I've just received a private prescription for testosterone gel, after quite a battle to obtain it! However, i'm now feeling a bit anxious about taking this to a pharmacy, as everywhere I've read about it says it's just for men, so i'm nervous about being questioned by the pharmacist! Also, i've never had a private prescription before so i'm not sure how it works, can anyone advise?

It also says on the prescription 1/4 sachet daily, which seems a lot, and it says 90 days supply, but doesn't state how many sachets or boxes. Sorry if these seem silly questions, but thought this is the best place to ask them !!

Thanks

The chemists don't bat an eye Carrie I've just been with one but nearly had a heart attack at costings and funny enough superdrug was much cheaper than boots.it has to be ordered in and it costs around £45 a container I needed two that he said would last me three months.ive no idea about costs of gel so just pop in and get a cost before you commit.x

Thanks for your input Daisydot and Dotty. I'll ring my local pharmacy for a price before I go in.
Dotty - do you know if they will give me some sort of alternative if it's been discontinued? Do you use it?

I got my first prescription for testosterone a couple of months ago. I was prescribed Testim which is about to be discontinued. I had to go to 4 different pharmacies before I found one with any in stock, then a 20-minute discussion with the pharmacist who had never heard of it being prescribed to women. I felt like shouting “just give me the b***** stuff!”

My pharmacy have never questioned my use of testosterone x

Hi x

My pharmacy haven't actually questioned me on it but they've looooked at me a lot  :-\ ... some whispered conversations between them and odd looks but then carried on with it.  I was told it's prescribed in the US for ladies too (not sure if this is definite) and it's only unusual in England.  Thing is it's great stuff and I've felt so much improved since using it ... they can stare all they want  ;D ... DH used to tease me and say they're only noseying coz they're thinking if she's a man in a dress she looks goooooood!!! xxx

I've recently moved and my old pharmacy don't bat an eyelid, the new pharmacy however, asked if it was for me, I said yes, they said they don't have any and not sure when they will, no problem for me, the new dr took testosterone off my list too until I see a gynae but in the meantime I've arranged for all prescriptions to go to my old faithful pharmacy 11 miles away, it's worth the drive to see professionals who have stock of meds and don't mind phoning around to get whatever you need

So, i've been ringing round all my local pharmacies and been told they are unable to obtain the testogel sachets, and because the script says sachets they can't give me the testogel pump in replacement, or any alternative, so back to the drawing board!!   :(

Annie0710 ... it definitely is worth the drive  :). I had mine cancelled out of the blue by my own gp once ... I went in blazing like a mad woman ha ha saying I was prescribed that by a much more knowledgeable specialist than any of you lot I want it back!!  I got it back  ;) ... well till the next time they randomly mess about with my meds anyway  ::)

Carrie ... do go back though, please don't give up - I feel genuinely loads better since I started using the gel ... I had to fight for it (well my menopause health nurse did on my behalf) but it's worth it x

It's annoying to think that your gp prescribed you with stuff that's discontinued  ::)

Thanks KatEd, It was actually a gynaecologist who i had to pay to see that prescribed it, so that makes it worse somehow lol. I'm going to email his secretary on Monday in the hope of getting a replacement prescription. The pharmacist at Boots said they shouldn't charge me again for the script.

Was hoping to have this sorted by now as I'm going on holiday shortly, but hey-ho, it's taken me that long to get it, a few more weeks won't make a difference!

Any recommendations from anyone as to what I should ask for in it's place?

And i'm also interested to hear more about these syringes for dispensing it that some of you ladies have mentioned??

Ask for testogel in a pump pack or Tostran .
