Duavive
« on: May 09, 2018, 01:01:26 PM »

Hi everyone,
Just wondering if there are any ladies on Duavive?. I've just started it for hot flushes and insomnia. I'm about day 5 in and haven't really felt any difference as yet. How long does it take to notice any changes. Also I still have a period and the Dr says it's still ok to take. Anyone heard any different?
Would love your feedback.
Thanks.
Witchy. ::)

If you type the product name into the search box on here, you will see other threads regarding this product.

Browse round.  Make notes ;-)

Witchy - I looked it up and  Duavive is for post menopausal women!!! I'm not sure you should be on this.  I think this is a relatively new type of HRT for women who can't tolerate other progesterones so I would question if you have been given the right thing.
Here is the link to the info:  https://www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/7343/smpc

Maybe print this off to show your GP?  DG x

Witchy I'm not sure where you are but in the US Duavee is approved (5 years ago) fir use as HRT and can be good for progesterone intolerant women. Just as many women on here start using HRT before their cycles have ended, I don't see why you couldn't use this if you're having perimeno symptoms. It was one of the choices offered to me as an HRT option and I was still having cycles, albeit erratic ones.

Thanks so much everyone. I'd been taking Trisequens but 3 weeks out of 4 I was so tired. I couldn't do much at all. My Dr. Recommended Duavive as it hasn't got the progesterone which she thinks was the problem for me.
I've only been on this one about 6 days so I will give it a bit longer.
I did question my Dr about taking it while still having a period and she said it's ok.
I'm in Australia G'day 😀

Do let us know how you get on as we haven't heard any experiences of this type of HRT on this forum so it will be of interest to many. DG x

Witchy Duavee is one of the offerings here in the US as it seems to do well for progesterone intolerant women. I never tried it but know several on it. Hope you get on well with it, and good luck!

Witchy, Duavive has been around for quite some time now and we've had several discussions about it on here.  Scotdownunder is using it and if I remember rightly, her specialist said it was OK for her to take it in peri menopause.

I would give it about 8 weeks before deciding whether or not it is for you.

I am severely progesterone intolerant and think it is important to try new HRT products as they come onto the market so I decided to trial the SERM part of Duavive (bazedoxifene) with two pumps of Oestrogel.  In theory, it should not have worked with bioidentical oestrogen but it did and the SERM definitely switched off the breast and womb receptors and I didn't have any breakthrough bleeding at all.  Unfortunately, I found that my sweating symptoms started to return so I had to ditch it.  I didn't think the SERM would oppose the oestrogen and undermine it but unfortunately it did - again, this should not happen in theory.

When I stopped taking the bazedoxifene and went back to Oestrogel only I decided not to take Utrogestan again until I had breakthrough bleeding.  It was a long time before I bled again and my periods have been lighter every since so that is a bonus.  Of course I had a uterine scan after this experiment and all was OK.

I was going to trial Duavive proper but decided against it because the oestrogen dose would have been far too low for me - my gynaecologist didn't think it would work.  That said, I think it is a interesting product with a lot of potential and I would not want to put anyone else off trying Duavive because it works well for many women and hopefully it will be available in different doses in the future.

I was going to start a new thread on my bazedoxifene/Oestrogel trial but I decided against it.

MaryG, what an interesting account of your experience on this. I think that all options should be available, and it's just great to have this as another one. And yes, it has been around for quite some time. I would consider it at some point in the future, if need be. The more options the better! Thank you for sharing your experience with this. It's very helpful. xx

Thank you so much ladies. It's great getting so much info.  It can be so complicated to get right as every body is different. I'll keep going with the Duavive for a few more weeks to see how the hot flushes and insomnia go. At the moment after a week, they're still driving me crazy. 😀

Hi Witchy,
I am in the same boat. I am wondering how long it will be before I can actually feel a difference. At the moment I don't think it's effective at all and I am into my 4th week on it. I will be interested to see how you get on.
I too am an Australian by the way.

Hey Mrs Bella,
Just an update, I'm on about week 6 now and it's finally kicked in. I still don't sleep the best but find if I take it later in the evening it helps.
Energy is up and hot flashes gone!.
Yay 😀
