Finally seeing GP on Monday
« on: April 28, 2018, 08:22:02 PM »

Hi, I have been on Femoston 1/10 then 2/10 for 10 months now.  I am 50 and have no idea where I am menopause wise as I was on Cerazette for 13 years and had no periods.  It took 3 months for me to have a bleed with Femoston, but it is very light and only lasts 3-4 days (although the period pains I have would make you think otherwise!)

I actually feel like I am going backwards.  The side effect initially were awful, but I stayed with it and I felt the benefits were outweighing the negatives.  However, 10 months in I am still getting morning sickness sometimes (I have tried the usual remedies), headaches, bloating etc  and I am starting to get the awful brain fog again along with night sweats - which had improved.

I am thinking of asking my GP for a different "route" having read a lot on here, ie. oestrogel + progestogen, or maybe a patch?  I really could do with some advice before I go, because it is very difficult for me to leave the house and I am that desperate now I really need to get this sorted.

Any help please xxxx

Oestrogel and Utrogestan would be a good choice.

I agree with Dotty, ask for estrogel and utrogestan, these are bioidentical and typically cause less side effects.  I have recently switched to this regime from prempak C and have had no adverse effects at all.

One shouldn't have 'morning sickness' awful.  Let us know how you get on?

I would also suggest Oestrogel and Utrogestan, I definitely wouldn't use patches - I hated having to wear a patch.  Oestrogel is not only much nicer to use, it also absorbs well and is far more dose flexible.

Well, after giving the pills 10 months, I really do hope that my GP listens to me.  Everyone seems to agree that Oestrogel and Urogesten is the way to go.  I will let you know how I get on.....  but it's either a complete change or I'm giving up... x

Good Luck, Please let me know if you manage to get this from your GP, as I went and my GP wouldn't give me the oestrogel and utrogestan, but I went to private and she gave me the sandrena gel which I have reacted to so I'm desperately trying to get the oestogel, I now have another appointment next week with a different GP, then in 2 weeks I have made a private appointment just in case I don't get it..... Good Luck

Hello, interesting that you have switched over.  How are you taking the Utrogestan part?

robotwars, what reason did your GP give for not prescribing Oestrogel and Utrogestan?   I thought these products were readily available on the NHS now.

SueLW I was fine on a low dose of utrogestan but it didn't produce a period.  When I upped it to 200mg a day I got very wired towards the end of the 12 days.  This  month I'm going to try and inbetween dose.  Other than that no problems with it and the 'wired' effect could have been stress!

Thanks.  So you are using it sequentially rather than continuously.  But good to know you didn't really struggle with it.  Sounds like if you do an in-between dose you will get the desired results and not feel wired.
