Now that the tubes of Testim have been discontinued, I have been prescribed a pump pack of Testogel, with each pump containing 20.25mg of testosterone.

I used to make one tube of Testim last me 7 days with each daily blob containing approx. 7mg of Testosterone.

So by my calculations I only need approx. a third of a pump of Testogel per day? My highly mathematical DH confirms this, but I'm slightly concerned because my GP had suggested I use 2 pumps per day??? And my pharmacist seemed mystified!

If it is just a third of a pump of Testogel it's going to be tricky dosing myself because it's so watery.

Any advice please?

Hi GRL,

I use cream rather than gel and that comes with a small syringe to measure the dose which is only 0.5ml. If you can do the maths to work out how much you need then the pharmacy probably sell syringes or will order one for you

I think 2 pumps should last for 7 days.

I was prescribed the sachets, which was 1 over 7 days. 1 sachet was 50g testosterone. Now they have been discontinued I've been prescribed the testogel pump, which I pick up today. My prescription says 2 pumps over 7 days so that will be a total of 40.5g of testosterone over the week. I'm going to pump it into a syringe with the weeks dose. I'm going to see if I can do half a pump aswell to make it up to 50g of testosterone for the week. You certainly don't want to be using 2 pumps a day unless you want a deep voice and facial hair!!

DH has suggested using 1 pump every 3 days, which sounds doable but don't want a big surge of testosterone on day 1 which might upset my other HRT.

That is very scary - re your GP!!! I posted yesterday in a thread on Private Lives about the same issue re dosage and will put up a post about it all at some point.

Yes as the others said - 1 pump of T per 3 days - and I agree re the surge in T - I wouldn't want that either. The other alternative is Tostran because it is double the concentration and the pump doses are smaller: 1 pump = 10 mg T (but it's a different formulation and like you I will want to stay with what I'm used to). This could then be used every other day - not such an issue because it stays in the body ( bloodstream I should say) longer than estradiol, and also T is stored for a short while in the skin after application, from where it diffuses into bloodstream.

Great idea re the syringe Verarose! Until i see the pump pack I can't envisage how you transfer the goo from the pump (which I presume is a bit like a liquid soap dispenser in that it will come out as one big blob?) to the syrigne without a bit of mess and losing some of it. Also the effect of air  and being out of the container has on the active ingredient T - not ideal really. How long have you been using T Verarose?

The other issue which I've written to the manufacturer about is the apparent difference in bioavailability (to men) of exactly the same T gel when in sachets and pump pack which I read yesterday.

When will there be a licensed product for women???!!!

Hi Hurdity,

I didn't get to use the sachets because in the time it took for the letter to get to the GP from my gynecologist they had been discontinued! I started T yesterday once I finally got the pump. It was easy to put into a syringe, it looks and smells like and alcohol hand sanitizer. I took the plunger out and held my finger over the end of the syringe. Pumped 2 pumps in and carefully put the plunger back in slightly with my finger still over the end. I turned it over and then plunged the air out. I think next week I will just do the 1 pump for 3 days though.

It's so frustrating Hurdity. How hard can it be?

I dispensed my first blob of Testogel, roughly a third of a full pump. But it's a bit Heath Robinson. Then again, even with the tube of Testim I never kept a strict record of how many days each tube lasted. I suspect sometimes it lasted me 7 days, or 6 days or 8 etc.
