Hrt v ocp?
« on: April 13, 2018, 07:44:28 PM »

Stupid question of the week
I am seeing my GP on monday to discuss ‘treatment'.
Ive done some reading and noticed that
Femostan1/10 (hrt) and mercilon (ocp) have the same oestrogen and progesterone in them with different doses.
Sooo question is with the ‘risks' of hrt why are we not all taking the ocp??
Looking to clarify , so cued up when i see gp

The risks will be the same with both. HRT isn't that risky anyway, unless you have a close family member who has had oestrogen receptive breast cancer - being overweight, drinking too much alcohol and smoking give higher risks than HRT. Don't believe all the horror stories about HRT.

I think it will depend on your age. I don't think a GP will prescribe a bcp beyond the age of 51 ish. I could be wrong.
HRT is licensed beyond that age.

How old are you?
Also bcP's are in tablet form and carry more risks than transdermal HRT.
