Hi
Is any type of testoterone gel available from a GP or is it only prescribed privately?

Thanks

Some GPs will prescribe but it's not licensed for women so they don't have to.

As Dotty says. I've just managed to get mine prescribed by GP - only thing is it is unavailable at the moment! Have a look at the thread I started in Private Lives called Testosterone Here We Go for various chat about testosterone.

Hi Hurdity. Long time no see. Having finally got my GP to prescribe testim gel on the back of Prof Stuff's advice, my pharmacist tells me he simply can't get hold of it, for love nor money!

Because I get through it so slowly, I still have a dozen little tubes left, but I noticed they went out of date Feb 2018, which is why I needed a new script. I'm still using them, hoping they still have some active ingredient. Do you think they will?

And does anyone know when it will be available again? I read on a website that it's manufacturer has discontinued it, which is worrying.

Does anyone know what the alternatives are to Testim? It's bloody typical that they discontinue it when my remaining tubes are now out of date. I'm still applying the testim, but the last few days I have noticed a few aches and pains creeping back in. >:(

Testogel or tostran (this is stronger .)

Or an Australian testosterone cream for women called Androfeme.

Thanks Dotty. I'm sure my pharmacist mentioned that Tostran was also out of stock everywhere. What on Earth is going on?

Regarding the availability of any kind of testosterone gel, I think these supply problems will get sorted out sooner rather than later because it is mostly men who use it. If it were just women using it, that would probably be another matter  ::)

Hiya GypsyRoseLee - I said hello on your other thread!

I don't know why I said that about the availability because it was just Testim and Testogel that the dispensary said to me were unavailable - but didn't know about Tostran.

My dispensary at the doctors sais that although Testim is discontinued the manufacturer is releasing the last batch in mid April so they will get hold of some and my GP (bless her!) changed my prescrption from 11 tubes - supposedly for a very generous 3 months, to a whole box of 30, so provided it comes in then that's me sorted for another year at least!

Btw GypsyRoseLee - I really wouldn't worry too much about the date - I mean it's like food - it's not going to be OK one day and then not the next and as it has about a 3 year date on it, I'm sure will be fine for months yet. I'm always using out of date stuff - was using utrogestan that was two years past date and it still worked to keep my endometrium thin! You should see our food cupboard - or the food museum as we call it sometimes - I'm sure some of you girls are the same. if it was a life-saving medication whose quantity and dosing were absolutely critical then I might be a bit less cavalier - but I would say just keep using it until you manage to get some more - hopefully soon!

Exactly Joaniepat - they're not going to go without it for long. The only problem would be if they decide to stop all the weaker ones which would mean it could be more difficult for women to ascertain the right blob size!
