I think there are several ladies on here who have POF, Danismum - hopefully they'll be along to chat.  :)

Hi!  Maybe put polycystic ovaries into the search box?

Hi and welcome to MM loubylou

I'm 62 now but I had POF. What do you need to know?

You need to find an HRT that suits you. I found Oestrogel used daily with seperate progesterone taken for 10 days each month worked well for me through my 30s and 40s and I then had a Mirena for 4 years in my 50s with Oestrogel alongside and that was really good.
Read up a the info in this site to get clued up and get back to us with questions. DG x

Thank Dancinggirl.

Did you suffer with any bone loss due to your pof? I worry about premature skin aging, death, memory loss.

Also, did you have children?

Thank you

Also Dancinggirl I read that you had problems with Utrogestan on another post. I seem to have the same things. What did you take instead?

Hi! The same here! 42 and on hrt. I was first on cyclo progynova for 6 months and on femoston 2/10 now. Hrt is a necessity for our condition. Hope it helps! :)

Hi Loubylou
I was lucky, I had my two children before the POF. You need to get some professional advice about whether you are able to have children.
I am not on systemic HRT any more (I'm 62 now) but I use local oestrogen to help with urogenital atrophy.
I haven't had too much bone loss and I get complements about how young I look for my age. HRT will protect your heart, bones, skin etc.
I used HRT for roughly 25 years. I did take myself off HRT aged 49, for 3 years, because of all the stupid scares regarding HRT and I really struggled through that time - my lost years. I then had a Mirena fitted and had Oestrogel alongside and that regime got me through another 4 years. I then tried the gel with Utrogestan and this really didn't suit me.
My suggestion for you would be to try Provera (medroxyprogesterone) on a sequential regime instead of Utrogestan, as many women seem to do better on that. It is better to put up with monthly bleeds and avoid using any progesterone continuously because of the negative side effects of progesterone.
As emerald2017 has suggested, Femoston may be a good option for you at this stage, so maybe try that next.
Do start your own thread so others can offer support - POF is more common than many people think. Keep us posted.

I am 42 and had one ovary removed when I was 38, the other failed almost immediately. I've been on proper HRT since I was 39 (first they had me way too low—POF sufferers usually need more estrogen but it took me a while to get to a decent specialist).

I've had trouble with unscheduled bleeding, first on continuous estradiol patch and utrogestan (Prometrium in the states). I'm better on cyclical and have experimented with vaginal progesterone via crinone gel. I may try a Mirena next.

My biggest issues have been urethral irritation, vaginal dryness and atrophy, loss of libido, and major hair thinning.

I had one kid when I was 33, and I only wanted one, so I lucked out. I had high FSH at the time, but somehow managed to get pregnant without treatment. Luck of the draw. POF is really a trying condition and doctors often don't know how to treat it well! Check out the Daisy Network for more support they are lovely!
