Hi I am about to start talking 200mg of Utrogestan and dr didn't know anything about taking it vaginally. I would rather it didn't go through liver as prone to  Ibs. Although it's not licenced to take in this way can anyone reassure me to do so! Would be 2 x 100mg tabs. Thank you

Yes, I see a private specialist who has advised me to take it this way, and lots of other women on here do too with no problems whatsoever. Much better in terms of limiting side effects etc.

This is something that another member just mentioned to me. Have you taken it orally ever? And if so did you notice a difference in side effects? Do you mind me asking what dose and for how long?

I am on 200 mg utro, started on 14 days per month, now down to 10 days and planning on reducing it further with doc support. I find utro very hard as I am a migraneur and found with oral route, felt side effects much stronger, I am now on vag route and much kinder one, as I said  still finding utro tough on migraine but determined to find a way to take it, only 4 monthson hrt so still a newbie to all this.
Best of luck with your decision, try a route you feel OK with and remember next month is a new month so you can try an alternative route.

I take 1 x 100mg tablet for 12 days a month, have done so for over 10 yrs and use it vaginally, works a treat.

I've always used Utrogestan vaginally, my gynaecologist said it should be used that way to get maximum benefit.  100mg for 7 days is my absolute limit otherwise I'm plagued with silent migraines and take ages to get back to normal.

Bellababe - I've also only ever used it vaginally. There is research demosntrating it's fine to use it this way - just not large enough trials for HRT vaginal use, but in the rest of Europe it is used and licesned to be used this way. I found the research I had looked at and posted it on another thread a few days ago but can't remember which one - will try to link if I can find my own posts!

What dose of oestrogen are you on?

Thanks everyone for replies. Hurdity - dr prescribed 2 x 100 mg tabs per day for 12 days. On 3 pumps of Estrogel.

Yes I took it orally to start with and had far more in terms of nausea, stomach ache and diarrhea that way. But on the whole it doesn't really seem to agree with me either way, I still get the mood effects taking it vaginally.

Abstract
The aim of the study was to compare the efficacy of oral micronized progesterone when applied by the vaginal route. The comparative study of serum progesterone levels between oral and vaginal micronized progesterone administration was conducted in sixty female volunteers. The subjects were equally divided into two groups to receive the drug either via the oral or vaginal route. The subjects' profiles showed that there was no significant difference in general characteristics between these two groups. The blood tests for estrogen and progesterone levels were performed on all volunteers before and after the drug administration. The data collected from the experiment revealed that the serum progesterone levels achieved by oral administration (5.06 +/- 2.95 ng/ml) differed significantly (p < 0.001) from those achieved by vaginal administration (8.26 +/- 4.09 ng/ml). The data also revealed that the serum progesterone levels of the oral administration group (4.23 +/- 2.68 ng/ml) did not differ significantly (p = 0.925) from the other group (4.15 +/- 3.40 ng/ml) when the serum estrogen level was less than 30 pg/ml. On the contrary, when the serum estrogen level was at least 30 pg/ml, there was a significant (p < 0.005) difference in the serum progesterone levels between these two groups (6.32 +/- 2.99 ng/ml for the oral route and 9.76 +/- 3.23 ng/ml for the vaginal route)."

Dandelion- thanks for posting that research article. Just about to try it vaginally so seeing the added affect of estrogen is interesting.

I am convinced I can feel Evorel patches ramp up, plateau and drop - almost to the hour so it will be interesting to see if that affects the utrogestan
