Don't you love those ladies who tell you to embrace the menopause and not make a fuss about it because it's natural.  Eat well, take some exercise and you will be fine.  Well for the last 4 months I haven't been able to eat due to terrible nausea and no appetite.  I haven't been able to exercise because the exhaustion has meant that It takes me all my time to get out of bed and get dressed.

Yes Dotty, love 'em to bits (not). Anyone who says menopause is natural should ask themselves whether it is natural to live that long. HRT is only replacing what we can no longer produce. I wonder what DEXAscans on those ladies would show after a few years without oestrogen.

Not sure -mainly I wanted to speak up for all of us whose lives are being made a complete misery by this awful thing. Also wanted to know what rights I have if my GP won't refer me to a menopause specialist because there aren't any in the SW, and they did say I should go back and insist on an out of area referral.

It's probably a long wait on the NHS to see a specialist....

Yes I expect it is, but it's an even longer wait if they won't even put you on the bloody list to start with...!

Racjen - Will an nhs specialist tell you anything different to the private one you have been seeing?

Hello racjen.

Well done for speaking up. You came across very well on the radio and as a listener I certainly got the message about the  poor service in your area. Point well made and I was impressed!

I sincerely hope you get the help that you need.

Take care.

aaaw thanks - given that I suffer badly from morning anxiety it was a bit of an ordeal. My daughters (aged 17 and 21) thought it was really cool!

Dotty, the problem is that I naively thought a couple of appointments later I'd be all sorted out and not need anymore attention, so I was prepared to spend a couple of hundred quid. What I hadn't realised is that hormonal mood disorders are far more complicated to sort out than physical ones, plus the extra factor that due to chemo my hormone levels were pretty much nil so it's taken months just to get them anywhere near normal, and now it also looks like i have a problem with progesterone intolerance. So I can see this stretching on and on and costing me a fortune, which I just don't have.

There is a school of thought that post menopause is another phase in a woman’s life, rather than an unexpected phase where we no longer have what we need to function. There are many women who suffered badly through peri and early menopause who feel better than they did in their 30s and they put it down to a creative time of life where the body is no longer focused on child bearing. I live in hope that this is true! If we can only get through the transition, which for many of us here is debilitating and untenable at times.

I’d honestly give up everything if I could know I’d never have to suffer a day of nausea again. Hang in there all, we may find something amazing on the other side!
