Anyone had a break from progesterone (ultragestan)?
« on: January 11, 2018, 09:34:58 AM »

Hi,

The specialist agreed it was ok to have a break from ultragestan this month. It was horrible last month coming off iit. I had started it the same time as one pump of Estrogel so I didn't have much oestrogen in my system yet.

I am now on 3 pumps and on Monday will have had a month of 3 pumps. I will next start the ultragestan mid Feb.

Can anyone reassure me that having a break from ultragestan won't cause any problems and that it might be helpful?

Seem to be feeling a bit anxious about.

Thanks xxx

From what little I know one month without progesterone shouldn't cause a problem.  My GP said it's just like taking the pill continuously to avoid your period on holiday.  If you are really worried then you cold have an ultrasound to check your lining isn't too thick.

I often push my progesterone for up to 6 or 7 weeks but of late have been trying to keep it to a 5 week cycle maximum.

My specialist told me the absolute minimum she feels is OK is 10 days of 200mg utrogestan every 3 months. I'm coming up for that and really dreading having to start again as last time was what brought on the horrendous anxiety to start with, and despite the break it hasn't gone away. Terrified of what'll happen this time. I don't think you need to worry about a month to 6 weeks, and as you say the increase in estrogen in the meantime should help with the progesterone effect. That's what I'm hoping too. Good luck! x

Oh yes, I always push it to the absolute limit but unfortunately I can't do a very long cycle because I get breakthrough bleeding at about 8mm.   I then start the Utrogestan which temporarily stops the flow and then I get a heavy bleed.

Skipping a cycle won't do you any harm.

Hi, When I started estrodot I didn't include the utrogestan until 9 weeks later in order to get oestrogen dose right. My specialist said up to 3 months is OK.
Hope this helps

I'm afraid, when I tried doing a long cycle with Utrogestan, I got erratic bleeding, spotting and cramps. I was only using 1-2 pumps of gel per day.   When I tried using Utro continuously, I got constant spotting - I had a scan and the lining was obviously building more than it should and simply breaking away.  Many seem to do OK with a long cycle but it didn't work for me.  I also got a horrid facial rash and felt spaced out and high.
