9 weeks on hrt
« on: December 17, 2017, 09:29:27 AM »

Hi I'm onto my 9th week on hrt. My day time flushes have gone . The night time flushes and sweats were mostly gone, but last night I had 12 - 15 hot flushes that I haven't had for weeks. Is this normal?

I'm 3 years post meno and I'm totally exhausted and feel very ill.

Any advice gratefully appreciated.

If your day time flushes are gone that is good. Very baffling that you are getting flushes at night!!! I assume you aleep in a cool too with light coverings??? Getting over heated at night can be related to other things than hormones.
I think you are in a continuous HRT, u have to say that I got night sweats when on conti hrt - it's the constant progesterone that does that.
The lack of sleep will make you feel awful and this needs to be addressed. Do research advice about ways to improve sleep. You may also be stuck in a pattern that needs to be broken. Have you tried using Nytol (not the herbal one ) to use in the short term.
I am quite resigned the the fact I will never sleep as well as I used to - I just try to relax more while I lie awake at night. DG x

My sleep was fine till a few weeks ago when these menopause symptoms hit me. I was getting very disturbed sleep..... waking up very jittery and wired. Now I'm just suffering with only sleeping for a short time.

The flushes started again last night.

I think I'm doing well if I get 5 hours sleep in night - if I'm lucky I get 6 hours but many nights I will get less than 4 hours and every night I have 2-3 trips to the loo.  I do spend 8-8.5 hours per night actually in bed but my sleep is better when I've done lots of exercise during the day.
Are you saying that your sleep problems began after your started the HRT or is it just the last few nights? I would suspect it is not menopausal or the HRT itself causing the problem but something else causing the night flushes. You may have a nasty virus - so perhaps you are running a temperature and don't realise it? There are low grade viruses that make us feel really unwell and simply give night sweats and extreme fatigue. It is so easy to simply blame the menopause of HRT for every symptom we experience.
As you are very post meno, so started from a very low hormone base line, it will take much longer for your body to adjust.  I'm afraid HRT doesn't suit everyone and may not give you what you are trying to achieve.
As I so often say, it takes a whole range of strategies to adjust to this next stage in our lives, HRT won't fix everything - we are never going to go back to being 30-40 or even 50 again - we have to find a new normal that we can live with.

We have to pace ourselves, build plenty of exercise into our day with proper relaxation in between. Eat as healthily as possible but only small amounts regularly throughout the day.

If you feel so dreadfully ill, then you need more advice from your doctor about how you can tackle this.  DG x

Docs have said there’s nothing they can do except wait for hrt to work. It’s not a virus or an infection.

Specialist says all my symptoms are menopause x

Yes the sleep problems started after I started the hrt but specialist says the insomnia is not caused by the hrt. It’s a menopause symptom that I wud be having anyway because the oestrogen hasn’t built up yet x
