Seeking reassurance
« on: December 29, 2017, 04:03:52 PM »

Hi everyone,

Thank you so much to those who helped me on Christmas Eve when I felt very very low. It was day two of coming off ultragestan 200 mg after 10 days of it and I just could not stop crying which was frightening.

I am now 14 days into 3 pumps of Estrogel.

Sometimes I think I am seeing a bit of an improvement but it's hard to tell. If I'm right then the Estrogel will take some time to build up especially as I was on ultragestan at the time of increasing it (from 1 to 3 pumps) 14 days ago?

Yesterday I felt a bit low and then today I woke up feeling a bit less low but anxious. I have eaten well, had a bath, done a Pilates class and some Mindful meditation plus had a big cry!

I am just seeking reassurance that this is normal at this stage and that like the specialist said I need to give it two to three months for symptom relief.

Estrogel won't make me more anxious will it? Please tell me it should help! Hopefully the anxiety will pass. It feels like excitement almost but unwanted. It's my birthday tomorrow so it would be great if it did pass.

Just seeking a bit of reassurance that anxiety can lower with Estrogel and that all this hormonal upheaval has a chance of settling down.

Just had a thought; if the Estrogel increases serotonin then that may cause anxiety in the way starting an antidepressant can cause anxiety at first. Just a theory.....

Thank you.

HORMONES !  >:(  ::)

The body doesn't get where it is suddenly so medication needs to be given time, even though, if you are like me, you want a cure and you want it last week?!?

Hi Mindfulmoomins

The effect of progesterone (Utrogestan) withdrawal for some women can give awful and I mean hideous PMT symptoms, as you have experienced.  After about day 5/6 of stopping the Utro and when/if the bleed starts, you should feel much better as it would have left your system by then.

The Utro negates the good effects of the estrogen and in your case as you may not have much of a build-up of estrogen yet, your level may have been depleted further.  Progesterone can affect/deplete serotonin levels.

Finding the right balance of estrogen is trial and error, too high or too low can create anxiety for those particularly susceptible to hormone fluctuations (personally I have always fared better on lower).

Hopefully over the next 2 - 3 months as your estrogen levels increase/stabilise, you'll start to feel better and the next use of Utro and withdrawal will be more bearable.

Maybe you could try taking Magnesium Citrate supplements in the evening - it has a calming effect.

Wishing you well, hope you find your individual balance - we're all so different in how our bodies react.

Night owl, thank you.

I did have a small bleed after day two of stopping the ultragestan and my mood lifted somewhat.

I think I am definite fairly susceptible to fluctuations. As I have had PND and Pms I am hoping the higher dose of Estrogel will help as it seems to help those like me by overriding their cycle I think.

Like you say it's a bit of trial and error (which can be quite exhausting).

Thank you for your good wishes.

Thanks also to CLKD. I have absolutely wanted this all sorted immediately if not yesterday!
