All was going well....bio identical HRT
« on: December 08, 2017, 02:24:29 PM »

Hi I was wondering if you could knowledgable ladies could help me. To cut a long story short, ive had awful debilitating symptoms since the age of 43, im 48 now. Not really hot flushes, but more pain in muscles, joints, fatigue, digestion and bowel problems. Been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome and have refused anti depressants countless times as i knew it was hormone related as my periods were all over the place. They stop for months at a time but then start up again. GP wasnt helpful. After seeing a meno specialist 7 weeks ago and taking HRT I have made a miraculous recovery and delighted in seeing all the symptoms disappear. I have my life back! I am on Biest (oestriol/oestradiol) cream 2mg a day with progesterone 100mg. Before taking it my Oestrogen was 49 and my progesterone was 0.4.

After 7 weeks i developed pretty bad breast pain. I missed a couple of doses as i was worried and then developed period pain. My doctor has been supportive and suggested my own hormones have kicked in and to come off and see if it settles, i would maybe have a period and then go back on. I am feeling pretty grotty so wondering if this is common? I am due to see her next week and she said she would review the plan, but can i ask which hormone may have caused this, whether others have experienced it? Is it possible i am intolerant or will it settle? My periods hadnt quite stopped so am I on the right HRT? Do i need a lower dose? It has been wonderful to have my life back i don't want it snatched away from me again. My mother had breast cancer after 10 years of HRT so it has been a difficult decision anyway,  but i had reached rock bottom with no medical help and i thought i had an awful chronic disease that no one had yet discovered!

Thanks in advance for your help ladies I will be worrying until i see her in 2 weeks.

Hi and welcome - breast pain in the first few weeks or even months is very common and quite normal with any HRT regime - it's the body adjusting to the hormones, especially if you started at a low base.
You seem to have been put onto a continuous HRT regime and this can give more side effects, so perhaps ask to be put on a sequential version - this will mean a monthly bleed but should still give you relief from symptoms but fewer side effects.  DG x
