Hello everyone I am on conti patch's and testogel for just over 3monthsnow, I have  been on hrt since early menopause so I have always had a combination of oestrogen progesterone but as I am now 55 I have lowered dose and swap to patch's . I have had had lots spotting on the lower dose changed from tibolene as not really any benefits but to low , had all the tests , oestrogen very low on tibolene so my consultant changed my hrt . I a, just waiting for the new hrt to settle in now I know nothing sinister . My new combination I use has a testogel as my consultant felt would help and wow it has, allot  more energy skin hair and everything better but does any one else take and if so should you have blood tests on it to check all ok ? Look forward to hearing from you  :) :)[/b]

Hi there - I can't quite understand all of your post - maybe some typos there - but you are on a conti patch + testogel? What patch are you taking and what dose of oestrogen? I use testogel and never had blood tests - it's not necessary provided you stick to a small dose. The T tests are not really senstive enough for women although perhaps useful if you think you might be getting too much? What dose T are you using? I started a thread in private lives section - called Testosterone here we go - you can find it easily in that section - where there are lots of posts about it.

It's not ideal to be taking tesosterone if your oestrogen levels are also very low, due to possible "testosterone dominance" and associated side effects - so more important in your position if you were going to get anything tested, to test the oestrogen maybe?

Sorry I'm not quite clear why you changed from Tibolone?

I use Tostran (double strength) and a new female dr contacted me over the meds for my nerve pain in my back.  We were chatting about my testosterone use and then she called me back saying she's read up on testosterone use and will only agree to prescribing if I have 3 monthly full blood counts (not measuring T levels) for a year then annually after.  I questioned why and she said it can raise levels of iron to dangerously high levels.  I don't think it's an issue on the dose I'm on but I have to stick with the deal.  I got a text last week reminding me to book another blood test and failure to do so will mean no more repeats

Testosterone has given me energy back and really helped my hair, it's alliwed me to work full time again, this would be disastrous if it was taken off me x

Hi I am on 50 patch and a small amount of testogel. I think now yes the consultant said you don't need bloods I remember as a small dose so thankyou. I think you Ave to go your symptoms and I am ok . Tibolene didn't really work for me not strong enough , they say a good one to be on in retirement as they tend to prescribe to the mature lady, but a great one to be on as lots gynaecologist rate it but I need more oestrogen progesterone so they say . Xxx

That sounds good Joanne debra - that is the dose of patch I use although since starting the T, I increased a little by adding an extra quarter of a patch and now need to get my docs to supply more as I keep running out because of this.

Annie0710 - do you have any information about this re the iron - it's not on anything I've read about T replacement in women although there has been very little long term research. It sounds a bit odd I must say because if we are only replacing what is missing (very low dose) then I can't see how this could happen? I can see though with Tostran because it is more concentrated one might put too much on by mistake as it is less easy to adjust blob sizes! Please do let us know about the iron aspect? Thanks :). I haven't yet tested the system for getting mine on NHS as my second box still hasn't run out!

Joanne debra - are you taking progesterone all the time - if so which one?

IVe never found a link re: testosterone therapy with women, just men.  I think this gp read up on it after she called me, panicked, and rang back offering the ‘deal'.  I had no choice but to accept but dread these blood tests (I have another one Tuesday).  It says it's more when the testosterone is given by injection as opposed to topical and that it increases the number of red blood cells and raises haemotocrit levels making blood sticky and ‘can' increase the risk of heart attack or stroke.  Last blood test was the best level-wise I've had in all the time I've been feeling yuk with menopause.  My red blood cells were always below range
