Testim Gel
« on: November 15, 2017, 01:05:47 PM »

Hi Everyone,

Has anyone here managed to get Testim Gel from their GP.   I did get it once from my GP back in 2015 but recently things have changed there and  it has been refused.   I have seen Prof Studd in the past and he prescribed it to me but I get my oestrogel and utrogestan from my GP and was hoping I could get the testime gel too.    I have oestopenic bones and Prof Studd said I  should use testim as it was beneficial for my bones.  GP knows about this but will still not prescribe the testim.  I have been back today to get some blood results and asked again and the young GP said she would ask a partner but seemed doubtful that I would get it.

I did
I asked gp for testosterone after she'd sent me for a scan and it seems my ovaries have disappeared so she said she'd need to ask a gynaecologist as she had no experience with testosterone and menopause.  The gynae emailed back saying to either try Tibolone or Testim gel.

Many thanks for the replies.

They have a letter from Prof Studd clearly stating that he thinks I need to use the Testim Gel.  I'm going to write to them enclosing a copy of the letter.

They really should provide when it's been recommended by a Specialist x

I saw a consultant last week as part of my Bupa health insurance and she said that gps are not allowed to prescribe testosterone gel anymore unless approved by a consultant. Even to men! There have been cases of overuse apparently, so because of these wallys sensible people are punished in the wallet by having to go private!  :-\

I have to have blood tests every 3 months to qualify for my testosterone gel.  One result that comes back with high iron and they're taking it off me :-(

I've only had one result so far and my bloods were the healthiest they've been since my meno started
