Safe maximum dose of Evorel
« on: October 20, 2017, 07:16:29 AM »

Does anyone know if there's a maximum dose recommended for Evorel patches - I know the largest is 100 but does that mean you shouldn't take more than that? Surely what's relevant is how much is getting into your system not how big the dose is, so as long as your level isn't too high it shouldn't really matter?

As far as I know there isn't - well within limits. There have been women on here in your position ( no ovaries or not functioning ovaries) who have been on higher doses - I definitely remember one member who was one 150 mcg patches before. Exactly as you say - if you are not absorbing it well - and women very enormously in how much is absorbed - then the notional dose on the patch is irrelevant - as it is what is getting through that's important. The only potential problem is tachyphylaxis - where women experience very high doses for a long period of time - sometimes more than would be experienced physiologically at ovulation - and then the oestrogen stops working and can cause the very symptoms it is meant to eliminate. I doubt this would happen with you when your levels measured so low. Hopefully after you've been on 100 mcg for a few weeks you will feel better - and I presume in your position you may have a couple of blood tests if you see no improvement? There is always the gel which some women absorb better.

By the way I sent you a pm and asked about your consultant but not sure if you saw it - you might have missed it as you are fairly new? No obligation to reply of course but I might ask the question on the forum if I can find the post!

I hope you feel better soon :)

Hi racjan- I think you're right about relying more on the level rather than the dose.

I've been using Estradot 100mcg plus two pumps of Oestrogel a day for the last month, having added the gel in as I was feeling so rubbish with just the patch- (my GP knew).

My blood test last week showed an oestrogen level of 193!  :o

It is a worry 'overdosing' but having my blood checked did give me some reassurance and I am now waiting to see a Specialist.
In the meantime I have abandoned the gel (having had absorption issues with it in the past) and in desperation, I have bunged a second patch on.
If this doesn't work then my only other untried method is to use the implants which I'm really not keen on.
