Help! Advice needed
« on: October 03, 2017, 02:01:26 PM »

Hey All, brand new today to this site - GP recommended it.  I have just turned 39 and for the past 2 and a bit years I have been trying to get on top of what seemed to be Endometriosis (sp?!) symptoms...tried pill then coil then hormone injections everything - none worked - still in alot of pain, heavy periods etc...so 3 months ago my consultant suggested to put me on Prostap injection...so had that.  Everything going great until 3-4 weeks ago and BAM - menopause symptoms hit me like a railroad...brain feels like its been fried, tiredness like I have never felt before, headaches and all over body aches, and now sleeplessness and hot sweats - basically I am a mess.  Emotional wreck, a nightmare to live with - my poor husband hasn't been allowed near me for years, my children (two boys) are fed up with Mummys moods.
So, went to GP this morning begging for some help - she prescribed Tibollone (sp?!).  Been reading up on it today and unsure about it tbh.  But not sure what options I have.
Also, have an appointment in two weeks for my next Prostap injection - have been told they can only give me two injections as that is all that is recommended - so I am at a real crossroads as to what to do...
Should I take another Prostap injection - and then what? Or should I not take it and go back to where I was 3 years ago at the very beginning of this?
My GP - although very sympathetic and understanding could not help me.  She said I was facing an impossible decision.
They are reluctant to operate to remove ovaries because of my age - has anyone else gone through this?
Basically, can anyone relate to my story in any way and offer any advice as to what to do when I go to next consultant appointment?
Getting to the point where I am just utterly fed up and feeling like a useless human being, totally lost who I used to be.   :'( :-\

If your GP thinks it is an impossible decision then he/she should be referring you to a Specialist  ::)

Using the 'search' box here, put the name of the product into it and see what pops up.  Some ladies find that keeping a mood/food/symptom diary useful.  Do read the green banner above and look at the Daisy web-site too.

Hi thelochie

 :welcomemm:

Sorry to hear about your problems - but also I'm not really familiar with all the ins and outs of the Prostap injection. I would suggest you start a new thread in the "All Things Menopause" section with Prostap somewhere in the thread title and see if it catches someone's eye? I don't remember reading about anyone recently who has had this but perhaps someone might be looking in? As CLKD says also you can search for it - go to the home page of the forum and you can search for threads containing this word.

Hi thelochie.

Do you definitely have endometriosis and is the reason for the prostap injections? I only ask as my daughter in law is on this for her endo and the treatment is one injection a month for six months. She gets side effects from the injection. It is all very complicated when Prostap stops the production of oestrogen  and then you need to have it added back to stop menopausal symptoms. Reading up on Prostap/Tibolone/Endometriosis it does seem to be the usual mix prescribed.

I think that if you have endometriosis then having your ovaries removed, unless the endo is contained just on the ovary, wouldn't really help as you would still need oestrogen to help with your surgical menopause symptoms and oestrogen would then increase the endo again.

Perhaps you could tell us a little bit more about what tests you have had to identify the endometriosis.

You will find lots of help and support on here.

Oh my goodness, thank you so much for your replies  :) Never thought anyone would take the time to read about me.
Taz2 - no I don't have Endo for definite, went for a scope last year and they couldn't see for sure, but consultant said that symptoms were so alinged with Endo that perhaps the scope just didn't pick it up??
I'll need to read up about the pros and cons of ovary removal and Endo...have to admit this is not an area of biology I know much about - progestren, osteorgen etc etc...
Hurdity - now I have some confidence with the forum I'll look into starting a thread, but feel I need to research some more before talking about it..
CLKD, yes my poor GP was as flummoxed as me today, but I am under the care of Gyne consultant who I'll be seeing next week. We talked today about having all my concerns and issues written down before I go so I get the answers I need.

Thanks again for all this immediate support, I can't tell you what it means, thanks Hx
