CarrieM, I hope I have been able to help you in some way.  Definitely read up on Duavive and in the meantime, the 7 day 100mg vaginal Utrogestan is worth trying and works for many women who can't tolerate the NHS licensed dose, myself included.  I'm afraid it's a case of having to be prescribed privately if you can't take large doses of progesterone because the NHS will not budge on their recommended dose of progesterone.  This is probably because they don't offer uterine scans routinely but you can pay to have scans yourself - it costs about £100 but it is better than being forced to give up on HRT altogether.

Just to mention that Duavive is a tablet and the oestrogen component is conjugated equine oestrogens (from horses -  like Premarin) so is not bio-identical, as this might help you with your decision. By all means ask your doctor to try the 7 days progesterone regime -  but as I mentioned in my earlier post I take progesterone (vaginally) for the full length of time on progesterone but a longer cycle - which limits the number of cycles per annum.

Hi MaryG

I would definitely pay for the private scans if i was doing anything "off licence". I'm just on an estradiol patch only at the moment, until i decide what to do next ( only been a couple of days, don't think it will kill me!) xx

Hi Hurdity

That does actually put me off, it not being bio identical. I actually took prempak C years ago when i was peri but only lasted a few weeks as i was covered in a rash, very attractive!
I emailed the nurse meno specialist at the hospital today asking for her recommendations, so i will just wait for her reply before making a decision.
Actually now i've had one night off the utro i feel so much better, I've started to think it couldn't have been all that bad lol. Maybe i can manage a cycle with it

Hi Carrie no I am not getting monitored by gp I decided this myself. Last month I took the full 12 days and the 200g of utro which I will do occasionally but my bleed was exactly the same as when I take less utro so I figure it's doing its job...my decision entirely x
