Professional advice needed

Hi ladies,

I wondered if any of you could recommend an early menopause specialist in the Manchester area?

My main concern is getting the best advice with regards to HRT. I have a very high breast cancer risk due to every female on my mothers side having had breast cancer. I am 42 and attend a breast cancer family history clinic and started mammograms early. I have been told that I have a one in two chance of getting breast cancer and so with the chances being so high I really need to discuss how best to proceed with treatments to help my symptoms.

There is so much conflicting advise and studies online and I just don't know what is accurate or what a professional would suggest. I can't afford to get this wrong as if HRT does increase my risk then it's  almost a guarantee that I will get breast cancer at some point. It's not the most rewarding of choices either way but I'd rather take alternative treatment than present myself with certain breast cancer further down the line.

Equally however these symptoms I am experiencing with early menopause are challenging and the thought of trying to ride this out for a number of years fills me with dread.  My physchological state prior to diagnoses was already fragile due to an extremely turbulent 18 months that I can't believe myself that I've got this far and I'm still standing. But to now be dealing with early menopause without HRT feels like a rough ride ahead and despite having always been quite strong, I'm not sure I have enough left in me to throw at this.

So I would really like to sit down with someone experienced who can talk through with me what my options are so I can way up the risks, make a decision, and make a start on alleviating some of these symptoms.

Thanks so much,
Andrea

Hi  :)

It is confusing trying to work things through on your own, isn't it.
You might find a good starting point is to read through the Specialists listed for your area on this site. Click into the tab at the top of the page.
I've done this for my location - I have then used this site and 'Google' to review the Specialist I think I preferred.

Having printed off the information I'm planning on talking to my GP to see about being referred.
Good luck!

Have a read of the DAISY web-site as recommended in the green treatment banner ?

I wonder if you can also ask your GP for a proper referral to someone that specialises in testing your risk due to family members having contracted the disease - before you ask about HRT - or maybe a menopause specialist (consultant gynae or doctor) will also know this?
