Got my results ... now which direction ?? Anyone help ??
« on: August 16, 2017, 07:43:17 PM »

Hi All,

Just had my latest Saliva test results in

Estradiol 6.1 pg/ml (Range 0.5-1.7 pg/ml (optimal 1.3-1.7)
Progesterone 1133 pg/ml (Range 200-3000 pg/ml Topical )
Testosterone 91 pg/ml (Range 16-55 age dependent)
Estriol 841 pg/ml (Range 10-200 pg/ml topical)
Progesterone / Estradiol ratio 186 pg/ml (Range 100-500 when E2 is 1.3-3.3 pg/ml)

For info i am post hysterectomy with both ovaries removed at the same time 12 yrs ago... Have recently been on Estrogel 8 weeks ago... but struggled..so came off 3.5 weeks ago..

Current on 2.5 mg Testim gel, 30 mg Natural Progesterone and 0.75 mg Estriol cream per day....

Feeling really bad , no wonder looking at the above...

It seems my Estrogens and Testosterone are high....

Thinking of reducing the Testosterone gel and taking every other day to bring the levels down but still have some in my system

Reducing the Estriol to 0.5 mg every other day ...

Taking DIM to lower the excess estrogens....

Keeping the Progesterone the same.....

Anyone help with any other thoughts the direction i should go.... as at the end of my tether !!!! and getting married in 4 weeks... so need to get to some sanity otherwise will be on the AD's for the day

Big Hugs

Hi yriches65
Are you uk based?
From what you are telling us, you are not being seen by a NHS doctor, as a saliva test isn't a proper way of testing hormone levels as far as I know!! The readings don't make sense.
Your treatment is also not conventional.
As you have had a hyster you really shouldn't have progesterone as this is notorious for giving side effects. Testosterone can also give problems for some women.
What symptoms are you trying to control?
If I were you I'd stop all the hormone treatment for 2-4 weeks to allow your body to settle and slowly introduce some Oestrogel from your NHS GP - start on one pump per day for 4 weeks and just increase to 2 if need be. Experimenting with various doses and chopping and changing won't achieve results. You need a good level of oestrogen to feel better - I think around 400-600 pmol is about right.  The readings you have been given don't make sense to me but maybe someone like Hurdity can throw some light on this with her science background.

Saliva tests for what exactly?  :-\ -  are they available on the NHS?  my Gynae won't do hormonal blood tests as they are reliably un-reliable, he prefers working on symptoms.  Also, to get a true reading with bloods, one needs to take them often and at different times of the day/month  ::)

If you have undergone hysterectomy your body doesn't require progesterone at all.

Hi Dancinggirl - to save yriches65 repeating it all I've found her first post which may give some answers as to her current regime https://www.menopausematters.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,36503.msg584979.html#msg584979

I'm not sure I can help though  :-\

Hi - as the others have said - we can't interpret saliva test because they are not mainstream and are not an accurate measure of your actual hormones levels. I read that  their only use is for example in women who want to see if they're ovulating ( re fertility) because although they don't give absolute readings, the relative cyclical changes in progesterone especially throughout the cycle can determine whether ovulation has taken place.

Measurement of estriol is not necessary as it is not the hormone normally replaced and cannot be converted to estradiol in the body ( if my memory serves me well).

My view is that you need to see a proper gynae (you said in your other thread you were on the Studd regime?). I am sure you need more oestrogen as you are not taking any estradiol - although you would need a proper blood tests to determine whether your estradiol is high or low. Are you getting symptoms - if so what are they?

Are you taking that amount of testosterone daily form testim? If so that is a very high amount! I doubt Studd would prescribe this much?

The progesterone won't do you any harm if it is a very small amount and as a cream but might dampen the positive effects of oestrogen if the dose (of prog) is too high and oestrogen not high enough

I would ditch that treatment and get back to see a mainstream gynae -  NHS or private (as you seem to be on this path) asap so that you can get onto a recognised regime in time for your wedding. Do you still have some gel left? Have you tried patches?

Good luck!!!

Hi All,

Many thanks for your replies....

Still going through the madness....

For info i am UK based.... currently have tried 3 so called experts.... 2 being private GP's and 1 hormone specialist....

Initially blood spot tests to find out my hormone levels...were low... was prescribed compounded Bi-Est (2mg Estriol/0.5mg Estradiol), 5mg testosterone and 100mg Progesterone.... within 6 weeks my levels were through the roof and suffering....

Then saw a hormone specialist.... Saliva tests done.... as they supposed to show the 'available' levels of the hormones that the body can use and more accurate.... whereas blood serum only shows total level of bound and unbound levels.... and unbound cannot be used...

All differing views depending where you go on the web as to which is best....

tried this regime for a while from the hormone specialist....but having peaks and troughs of good days and bad days....

Then saw Carol Vordermon on this morning about Studd regime.... so saw a GP who had worked with Panay and Studd.... was put on Estrogel... came of Prog and Estriol.... blood test done only for testosterone ....which was found to be basically 0. So put on testosterone also....

Shortly after had the worst vaginal issues...such as thrush, cystitis etc that i had ever had ... but stuck with the Oestrogel....

But didn't get any better.....

So switched back.... to Estriol , Prog creams...and stayed on Testosterone.... the vaginal thrush issues subsided... and went away after a couple of weeks...

I have seen private GP , NHS GP privately and hormone specialist.....

And still in a total mess.... having difficult trusting NHS GP due to past bad experiences....

I just want out of this and my life back from the madness.... and for someone to simply tell me what i need to do to sort this...

Getting desperate now !!!! and supposed to be getting married in 3 weeks !!!

Big Hugs
