Elleste duet
« on: August 04, 2017, 03:31:32 AM »

I'm new to this hi everyone! I started peri menopause about two years ago I'm now 46. Does anyone take elleste duet and have the marina coil? I've heard it's not advised, but have been taking this for the past 18 months. My GP refuses to change the hrt and I now have an appointment for a hysteroscopy next week due to thickening of the womb lining. I still have chronic insomnia too. Any advice welcome

Hi Poppy. I am new here too. I have been taking Ellestre Duet for 8 months but am thinking of stopping. Although I have seen several GPs I find I am not getting to info I need to ask questions / make choices; it is very frustrating and adds to the anxiety.  I had no hormone blood tests before the HTR - just chronic insomnia - so was in a desperate ' try anything' state. had no hot flushes, just erratic periods with mid cycle brown gunk. After having read this I think there is a chance my oestragen is too high not too low. Last 4 week period have been much heavier and longer, mood has been worse, now have dizzy at night. However the insomnia has cleared so my husband is keen for me to stay on it as it was so awful for the family when it was bad. I am going back to my GP next Friday but think I am going to stop taking it and ask for a hormone check before I make any other decisions. Hugs to you.

Hi Poppy234. It's good that you are having your thickened womb lining investigated and please let us know what your results are.

I'm not too knowledgeable about the Mirena but it seems to me that you are getting a double dose of progesterone. The Mirena is often used as the progesterone part of HRT and you add in oestrogen only HRT. Someone else will be along soon I'm sure with more helpful advice! I have found this thread from 2014 https://www.menopausematters.co.uk/forum/index.php'topic=23807.0

Sorry to hear that you are suffering from insomnia at the moment. It's such a debiliating thing to have and everything seems so much worse when you're exhausted. Do you have trouble getting off to sleep or staying asleep?

Thankyou both of you for replying, I have early morning wakening Taz, up at 3.30 am every morning. Sometimes I manage to get back to sleep but feel shattered and I have two small children. The elleste cured my insomnia initially but it's come back. Thankyou for that info I'll look at it.

Seriously thinking of paying privately for a specialist I've never had blood tests. Hugs to you too Roseneath, vitamin D really helped with lack of motivation and agitation you need a blood test and it prescribed because I found over the counter stuff not as effective.
Thankyou again for replying xx

Thanks for the tip on Vit D. It's funny, the one thing that definately raises my mood is sunshine. After my 5 days of horrid insomnia in May I had a holiday booked for 2 weeks later...was terrifed I wouldn't be able to sleep on holiday. Took sleeping tabs for two weeks before I went to get back to normal (Nitrazapam...Z drugs didin't work for me) which did help then BAM first night away from here (Dunblane Hydro...lovely, great family rooms). Slept fine...first time through for ages. Then on holidayall ten days slept fine...no drugs...realised I loved the set up of the hotel room...all dark brown walls / warm glow lamps so came back, spent £100 in IKEA, repainted bedroom walls mushroom, new lamp, fluffy rug, changed bed orientation...and BOOM I am sleeping really not bad. The occasional duff night waking at 2 and 5 but overall much improvement on past 6 months (I used to wake 3 and 5 like you...sometimes not getting off again). So do think of medication but also maybe try making yr bedroom super cosy.

Hi, everyone. I'm new to the site and grateful to see others with similar questions and comments (though, of course, wishing everyone less suffering!). I'm also on the Elleste Duet and am in my eighth month. I had the blood work confirming menopausal hormonal levels before beginning and hadn't had a period for two years prior to commencing. About two months after beginning the medication, I began to bleed. Given that I was advised to contact the doctor if this happened, I did so and began a journey which is still on-going. I have bled more since March than I've not bled. I've had the Myo-Sure procedure to remove a polyp and had hoped this would be the end. It's not been. I began bleeding again about 10 days after the procedure, went back to the specialist who confirmed everything looked fine but I may have picked up a small infection. A course of antibiotics later and everything seemed to be on track for the road to recovery.

Until the 29th of July when I started bleeding again. It lasted four days before stopping; though, the stoppage lasted only three days before I started bleeding again on Monday. And, haven't stopped. The bleeding is fresher and heavier; and, the cramping is even waking me up at night. My biopsy tests of the womb lining and polyp were clear (thank God); I just don't know what to do at this point. I'm not a doctor but I know this doesn't feel "normal".

Is anyone else experiencing similar issues or have any ideas? I'm at my wit's end.

Many thanks!

Hi, there.

I'm on the one which isn't supposed to give me a bleed at all so I'm assuming it's the Conti? The doctor was very specific on that point. Any thoughts?

I'm sorry to hear that you are having problems,if it were me l would stop taking it for a while and see if your bleeding settles. What symptoms were you having to prompt you to use hrt ? How old are you now ? Others hopefully will come along later with some more input I'm sure.

Hi dbs - it would be helpful if we had more info on where you are in menopause. If you are on Duet Conti I assume you hadn't had a period for at least twelve months before it being prescribed unless you are over the age of 54?

I had continuous bleeding when on a conti HRT and, in the end, went back onto sequi HRT as at least I then knew when to expect the bleed.

Hi, all. Thank you for the comments. I'm just 50 on the 31st of July but had not had a period for two years prior to starting the Conti. I began the get in January to combat the severe hot flashes and increasingly distressing mood swings. The pills have absolutely helped in these areas which is why I'm reluctant to stop. I appreciate everyone's help!

I was put on HRT (Ellestre Duet) for chonic insomnia and it was the worst thing  I ever did (I had not other symptoms, just anxiety. I'm 47). I stayed on it for 8 weeks but got horrible heavy periods, nightmares, brain fog, almost paranoia, migranes. Doctor took me off and within days felt myself again. I take proprananol for anxiety now. I think it is important to try and keep anxiety and other menopause symptoms seperate. I had no hormons tests so for all I know I could have high oestragen not low. I took sleeping pills for 2 weeks to re-boost my sleep and touch wood it has  been Ok since.
