Surgical meno newbie age 35v
« on: July 17, 2017, 07:30:14 PM »

Hi all,
Ive visited this forum so many times but ive finally joined today.
My story so far im 35 (just) i had severe endo and adenomiosis since age 12...not confirmed until trying for children age 20. I have had 7 laps and at age 31 had a hysterectomy. Still suffered with migranes due to my ovaries and would spend almost 3 out of 4 weeks with a migrane. In Oct last year the decision was made to take my ovaries, so started prostap and was given tibolone (no real difference). I had a BSO in April this year, the op was painless and i was back to normal in a few weeks.
Now for the feeling like id been thrown underca bus part!!!...after a week i was having hot flushes, insomnia mood swings, i literally felt like id been hit by a bus. I was then taken off tibolone and put on estraderm 50 patches, helped in some ways...but skin hair and joint pain was horriffic!!! Plus the patch wouldnt stay on more than a day as i exercise daily and have a physical job. My GP unwilling to help as i was too complex...referred to meno clininc but a 4 month wait??!! Paid privately was put on Sandrena but had migranes horrific, tried oestrogel but had a skin reaction and migranes. Finally on a patch of evorel been upped to 100mcg but because of the size of patch...it doesnt fit anywhere and causing horrific 48hr skin irritation after removal, but again GP will not offer the smaller patch of estradot as its too expensive!!!. I have 20 years of this and cant live with a patch the size of my hand for 20 years. Plus since it was upped from 75 to a 100 i have had backache...is this normal???
Sorry for the long post x

Hi and welcome She'll
Why not simply try oestrogen pills? OR perhaps an implant?

Hi ladies thx for the replies, im unable to take tablet form as i take other medications which would affect how my liver processed them. I also suffer with gilbert syndrome so another reason to not keep on tablets that use the liver. I will have to be on hrt for potentially 15+ years.
They wont consider the implant either as its only done on very rare occasion.  :'(

Hi Shell

 :welcomemm:

How dare the doctor refuse you Estradot patches on account of cost  for someone in your situation. I think you'll find you should be entitled to the HRT of your choice that is licensed and for someone of your age who is going to have to take oestorgen for a long time this is entirely appropriate. I use Estradot and have done for 10 years (am in mid 60's) - and having had the first 3 months of HRT on Evorel (50 mcg) there is NO WAY I would put a patch that size (100 mcg Evorel) on my butt - they are humungous! if that dose suits you then please go back and ask for Estradot giving your reasons - if possible try another doctor at the practice and if they don't play ball politely demand a referral to a menopause clinic or specialist gynaecologist.

Increasing oestrogen should not give you backache. I am sure your body is still adjusting to being without ovaries so it may take some time for you to feel well again. There is a surgical menopause thread on this forum too (in All Things Menopause). Also you might need testosterone once you've got your oestrogen levels sorted.

Thanks Hurdity,
I have booked a further appointment with a different doctor at my surgery, whose background is gynae...fingers crossed for a better outcome. I am taking the patch with me and asking where they think it should be stuck...the size is outrageous!!!
I'm keeping everything crossed that it goes well.  :-\ xx
