Anxiety, Evorel 25 and Mirena Coil..experiences please
« on: July 27, 2017, 05:04:05 PM »

Hi Everyone, Im new here.  I have had a mirena coil for seven years (on second one now) which really sorted out my heavy periods. now Ive just gone on Evorel 25.  Ive had Anxiety flare ups for eight years, and am really suffering right now although I know it will go away eventually. I am aware Evorel 25 is a low dose. Can anyone tell me if they had an improvement in anxiety on this regime. I have also been on 20mg Citalopram (AD) for eight years as well. I am 48 and in peri menopause.- how long did the Evorel take to work? Also suffering with terrible sweats - day and night. feeling like life isn't at all easy right now. but due to go on holiday with hubby and kids soon. I have suffered a massive loss in confidence.
Im really glad there is this forum, I don't have many people to talk to about all this.

Hi Lucy

Because you've got a mirena you're safe to up your oestrogen.  Why not try increasing to 50 which is an average dose anyway (25 is low as you say).  Oestrogen is the feel good hormone so hopefully this will help with your flushes and lack of confidence.

Wishing you well x

Hi Lucy and welcome x
I'm fairly new to MM - a few months back. It's been an eye opener and lifesaver and I don't say that lightly!
To answer your question - health anxiety has been my worst symptom started around 3 yrs ago. I never had it recognised as a problem in itself as gp chose to help me alleviate fears by investigating or referring to specialists for every ailment I developed that i thought was life threatening.
This January things escalated. Lots of sleepless nights - night sweats - painful joints- dry eyes and nether regions - IBS flare ups and dreadful fatigue - pins and needles - migraines and weakness down one side of body. Brain fog prevents  me from remembering the full list ;D  well let's just say I've had better times ;)
Never had experience of hormones before as I'm sterilised - but had to give in and get Mirena inserted in April. Within 2/3 days I thought I was going mad.... started estrogel ( sandrena) and although it helped I was still having a real tough time. I increased the dose to 2 sachets - 1 in morning 1 in evening. Difference is like night and day. So for me I badly needed the higher dose.
Anxiety has just gone and all other symptoms are slowly retreating.
Keep sharing and posting - we are all in this together xx

I am so impressed with this forum. Doc said to come back in September to talk about raising the dose of Evorel, so I will do that.- I think he was thinking it was a low dose too. However I have started to have period pain again, which I haven't had since the mirena was fitted I think its best to take it easy with the hormones and give myself time to adjust

Ive had a rough ride with anxiety since November with loads of flare ups. I had a really severe food poisoning incident (Camplobactor) a couple of weeks back and it knocked me for six. One of the worst symptoms of my anxiety is dry retching, which literally brings me to my knees. The old Vagus nerve is pretty hectic right now!

I am really looking at some lifestyle changes, to support myself. e.g. much more exercise, being outside, and yoga plus trying to get back into craft plus I work from home and its doing my head in- I need more people around

DaisyB- I am sorry about the health anxiety- Its the one anxiety I don't seem to have, which is bizarre,
but I do know how crippling anxiety can be. Great that the anxiety is retreating.interesting you mention dry eyes Ive been suffering with that too. Thank you peeps for beings there. xxx

Yes good advice to increase the Evorel when you are ready to Lucy & remember that the mirena coil is only licensed for 4 years as part of your HRT.

Sounds horrible about the food poisioning but hope you feel better now.

Thanks Cazikins- I did not know that about the license for the Mirena as HRT. I overran on the last one for contraception by 18 months, but apparently in France its licensed for two years more!- what a minefield. yet again, thankful for this forum.

My doc said he couldn't prescribe HRT for anxiety alone. So he was prescribing it for the hot flushes. I looked at the NICE guidelines and you can- indeed they should be looked at as a treatment ahead of SSRIs. I think there should be specialists at a GP or they should make referrals to specialists. He also told me that the patches had to be above the waistline. Fortunately a nice female pharmacist put me straight on that.

thank goodness for the internet. Anyway I had a much better day today. shortly going on holiday to 34 degrees C. how I shall be coping with That I don't know. Just have to stay in the sea.
