Sending out SOS - totally at wits end
« on: July 07, 2017, 07:14:23 AM »

Dear Ladies,

I am really looking for some advice as I am at my wits end and have no idea who to turn to!

Let me tell you a bit about myself. I am 46 and in November 16 my periods stopped and by March 17 I was suffering dreadful hot flushes that interestingly only occurred in the late evening and at nighttime. I also suffered intermittently, crashing fatigue, achy limbs and nausea like morning sickness. This would last for 3-4 and then disappear.

I went to see my doctor in March, who prescribed Kliofem. This cured my hot flushes which was great as I could sleep well. Unfortunately, the intermittent other symptom have continued on nearly a 2 week cycle.

I went to see my doctor again when I got the end of the 3 months of Kliofem. I informed him of my symptoms and asked why he had put me on Kliofem, as I had read up on Menopausal Matters that it was mainly for women who had not had a period in over 12 months - which clearly was not me. He then put me on Elleste Duet 1 mg seqi and I felt fine for the first 12 days the BANG... the intermittent symptom returned with a vengeance!

They always follow the same pattern. On the first day it starts I get diarrhea around lunchtime, I then start to notice my energy disappearing and my 3 mile cycle home that I commute everyday, my legs feel heavier and heavier. By late evening I have lost my appetite and I feel very drained. By 2am in the morning I feel very nauseous and I have dreadful anxiety, heart palpitations. My limbs feel like lead.

I had fasting bloods taken two days ago and I am about to see the doctor today to get the results.

I am at my wits end and I feel very alone, as my husband is very sympathetic, but ultimately he has no idea how dreadful I feel.

Any advice would be so gratefully received.

Thank you xx

prestige, I don't know anything about HRT either I'm afraid but maybe this is your own cycle kicking in? They do also say you've got to give Hrt 3 months to kick in. Hopefully your blood tests will give you information on ferritin, thyroid and vitamin d levels - if you post them later on people can maybe comment on the levels? I just find when that level of fatigue kicks in, you have to cancel any plans you have and go to bed - I've been in bed at 8pm more times in the past few years than I'd like to admit!

Good luck at the doctor's.

shortie, if prestige had the symptoms when she was on elleste, then is something else not maybe going on? Maybe I've misread, but I thought those symptoms have always been there.

Thanks Shortie - I will definitely mention this to my GP, who does not seem to be very clued up on Menopausal issues. I'm hoping he won't fob me off with some sort of rubbish.

I'm determined this time to insist I see a specialist if he has no clear answers!!

I just wish I could go armed with all the kind knowledgeable ladies on this board to the GP surgery!

I would love to see his face :D

Hi Prestige

Sorry you're having a hard time.  Personally I would change my hrt as I don't think it's suiting you.  It's a pain I know but the patches and gels are very good.  Wishing you well x
