Medical Secretaries

Seeing the devastation from London I'm pulling this.

And breathe

No point in getting upset. You did what you did CLKD and no one is disputing that and it sounds as if you did a great job.

Bit of a tiff over whether medical secretaries are superior to other admin jobs. Think it is over and done with now.

Actually it did if you had read earlier.

CLKD had obviously decided in light of what has been happening in London what had upset her....in the great scheme of things.....had sort of come in to perspective.

I think we let this one go and move on.

CLKD, you might be interested in what the job entails these days - I have family who are in this area of work and it has changed a lot both in terms of centralisation and remit. They ask for office administration qualifications now.

Thanks Mrs Brown. I was at work earlier and didn't read until I got home so hence the confusion.

Secretarial and Admin positions have changed so much over the past thirty years. It's interesting that the qualifications needed for Medical Secretary applications in England seem to differ from those in Scotland https://nationalcareersservice.direct.gov.uk/job-profiles/medical-secretary

Taz,
Don't think they are all that much different except Scotland asks for excellent keyboard skills whereas England only asks for good computer skills. All much of a sameness in the two descriptions I think - an admin role in both cases. Any competent admin person in an office etc. would be suitable for a medical secretary.

The English requirements are for excellent keyboard skills and GCSE passes in English and Maths are only "helpful" but not mandatory so, to me, it doesn't seem much different to a normal secretary or, as you say, it is the same as an admin post. Things have changed a lot over the years in the secretarial positions. In Scotland they do mention a qualification as being necessary.

Anyway my days as a PA are long gone  ;D
