New to group, desperately seeking advice please
« on: May 17, 2017, 09:48:44 AM »

Hi, I'm going to try and keep it short but medical history pertinent.

!0 years ago at age of 39 I suffered an abrupt early onset menopause caused by several months of radiation therapy for advanced bowel cancer.

My gynae consultant and I tried many varieties of HRT and finally found one that didn't impact my other medical issues too significantly, I had a happy 5 years on Prempak-C 0.625.

Of course it's been discontinued and my lovely gynae consultant is no longer available so I'm working via my own research and a hopeless GP. Although GP will prescribe anything I request there is no detailed knowledge about HRT available in my area that I can find at the moment.

I'm now on my second month of Femoston 1/10 and suffering during the estrogen only phase with horrendous fatigue, headaches, light headedness, nausea, diarrhea. All of which clears up the moment I start the second phase that includes the progesterone element.

Femoston does NOT contain conjugated estrogen unlike Prempak so I'm guessing that's the cause.

Hoping somebody will have some ideas as to what I could try next (maybe separate tablets???). When I was forced into a 5 week zero situation when the supply of prempak became very sporadic it made me very ill as all my other medications are balanced to take into account that I'm on HRT. Consequently I really need to start a different regime as soon as possible.

Many apologies for length of post, I promise I tried to keep it short and really hoping someone out there can help

Hi rwebbb, I'm afraid I can't offer specific advice about an alternative HRT for you as I'm quite new here, but there are many more knowledgeable ladies, who I'm sure will be along soon with proper help.  Didn't want to read and run, so instead just want to say I'm sorry about your very difficult situation and do sympathise as I'm also on other meds that are balanced to take account of HRT's effects, so know what can happen when the balance is upset.  I hope you find a good alternative soon & will feel so much better for it.

Hi rwebbb,
 :welcomemm:
I'm afraid I can't help with your question, but in view of your medical history, you might like to contact Dr Currie who runs this site. She will answer your question for £25 - the details are on the home page about halfway down:

https://menopausematters.co.uk/index.php

I hope that you will be able to find a suitable replacement HRT and will soon be feeling much better.

Hi and welcome :)
I was on premique and discontinued so I'm on the tablets Stellajane has mentioned Premarin and provera, I don't think I have the right strengths as been feeling faint, dizzy and vision going weird.
I'm off to doctors this afternoon as may try progestrogen and another estrogen tablet.

Thank you all so much for replying, it's a massive relief to know there are people "listening".

I've emailed Dr Currie as suggested as it seems a good plan.

Fairly certain the Premarin will be ok as it's conjugated but previously had problems with the different types of progesterone so not sure about the Provera.

Good luck this afternoon Lil22, hope it goes well.

Sadly whilst my GP is the best in the area, they don't currently have anyone specialising in HRT within the practice.

Many thanks again

Oh well one on surviving thus far!!!! and pity your supportive medic has now ? retired ? but maybe contacting the secretary that worked for him would be a way to go for further advice.  Let us know what Dr Currie suggests too.

Browse round.  Make notes.  Every experience shared may well help someone else!

How are you otherwise ........
