Indivina v Duova
« on: April 28, 2017, 08:01:26 AM »

After taking a break from HRT I went back on in September. The specialist prescribed Indivina 1mg/5mg which I took for about 3 weeks before I started to see results but I was very pleased. The hot sweats and freezing cold episodes had subsided to warm and cool periods which were a great improvement. I had my second prescription, dose 2mg/5mg,  from a different chemist and they gave me Duova. The drug is supposedly the same, from the same manufacturer, the instructions on the box and the tablet strip are in French but the info document is English. After about a month I started to wake up again with night sweats. And I'm much warmer and colder during the day. Could this be that the tablets are different?

Hi Stillsearching - are you saying you changed to 2 mg oestrogen dose at the same time as you had the Duova (which I've never heard of - but when I looked it up it gave the leaflet for Indivina under the same drug name so will be the same)?

Your body needs to adjust to the new dose although your night sweats should not get worse on a higher dose of oestrogen as it is supposed to prevent them! Some women do get odd effects from continuous combined HRT especially the tablets it seems - some of the synthetic progestogens have unpredictable side effects and can interfere with the beneficial effects of oestrogen in some women.

I would keep going for another couple of months and see if the symptoms settle - otherwise maybe a change in HRT might help?

Hi Hurdity. Yes I filled the prescription for the higher dose at a different chemist and they gave me the Duova. I've just taken my next prescription back to the first chemist and have been given Indivina again so I will be interested to see if there is any difference. My next appointment with the specialist is in July. He has suggested taking the pill in the evening rather than the morning to see if there is any improvement otherwise he will prescribe an additional separate 1mg of eostrogen.

I'm a bit confused - I don't think it is anything to do with it being Duova but the fact that you doubled the dose - although it is also unclear as to why double the oestrogen dose would make your sweats worse (if I am understanding what you say correctly?)
