Will a simple blood test tell me if I am perimenopausal please?

Blood tests are really quite unreliable unfortunately as they change daily if not hourly.
It will give you a tiny idea but it really depends on so many things including what point in your natural cycle you are at.

A good GP ....and there are few....will go on symptoms alone.

Sorry that's probably not what you wanted to hear.

Hi Elli,

it didn't suggest that I was despite all my symptoms.

It took the effectiveness of a herbal supplement ( black cohosh ) on my night sweats to convince my male G.P that it was worth trying HRT.

Having said that, I wasn't asked at what point in my cycle I was when I was tested which I now understand can be important.

I would have said yes - if you have FSH, Oestrogen and progesterone.

The results and your symptoms should give you an answer.

Thank you for your replies.
I spoke to a doctor yesterday and she said it is a misconception that a blood test will tell you; it is NOT definitive apparently.

Hi EllieRey_68

 :welcomemm:

The information about diagnosis of menopause is found here:
https://www.menopausematters.co.uk/diagnose.php

The only times it is helpful is for example when women have stopped periods due to the mirena coil or no longer have ovaries - otherwise changes in the cycle, combined with symptoms and age provide the best indication. For women under 40 blood tests are recommended - but not just one. NICE Guidelines recommend that at least two are taken 4-6 weeks apart. Other conditions also make cyclical changes a less reliable indicator of peri-menopause.

I presume you are asking because you think you might be?
