Hi All,

I just wondered if you could help?
I would like to get my AMH levels checked but don't think I can on the NHS. I am happy to pay for this test but have googled it and there are lots of clinics all with varying prices it's hard to work out where is genuine.

I wondered if anyone could recommend a reputable one please?

Your post seems to have got missed.

I wasn't aware that this test was even offered yet or that there were defined reference ranges for different reproductive stages so I think your question is a first for this forum!

As you can see from the lack of replies - no-one here knows. I would ask one of the gynaes at the clinics listed on this website under specialists - and see what they come up with. I agree you definitely don't want to go to one that is not recommended and especially if the test is unreliable and won't show anything.

Anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH), also known by various other names, is a protein that in humans is encoded by the AMH gene.[1] It is a hormone that inhibits the development of the Müllerian ducts (paramesonephric ducts) in the male embryo.[2]

Although the AMH receptor is expressed in both male and female fetuses, AMH expression has been isolated to male sertoli cells.[3] Expression of AMH is activated by SOX9 in the male Sertoli cells and causes the irreversible regression of the Müllerian ducts.[4] Because AMH expression is critical to sex differentiation at a specific time during fetal development, it appears to be tightly regulated by SF1, GATA factors, DAX1 and FSH.[5][6][7] Mutations in both the AMH gene and the type II AMH receptor have been shown to cause the persistence of Müllerian derivatives in males that are otherwise normally virilized.[8]

AMH expression also occurs in ovarian granulosa cells of females postpartum, and serves as a molecular biomarker for relative size of the ovarian reserve.[9] In humans, the number of cells in the follicular reserve can be used to predict timing of menopause.[10] In bovine, AMH can be used for selection of females in multi-ovulatory embryo transfer programs by predicting the number of antral follicles developed to ovulation.[11]

Thank you for your replies I really appreciate it.

I'll have a look at the specialist gynae clinics and am also seeing my GP on Monday so will ask her about it too and let you know how it goes! Thanks for your help guys

My daughter has a very low AMh, I had never heard of it until she went for IVF treatment.  She had hers done under the NHS but privately I think its around the £125 mark !

I thought that Mullerian was a garden plant

You can get a amh done by medichecks. It costs about 50 quid.

Thank you all. I've been to GP this am and she was really helpful regarding my symptoms and a plan. She is going to liaise with our local laboratory to see if it is a test that can be on the NHS and if not I am happy to pay. I'll keep you posted when I get an outcome. Thanks so much guys x
