Lichen sclerosus?
« on: February 23, 2017, 04:34:34 PM »

Hi,

In case anyone suffers the same just an update.  After three horrible months of trying to get to the bottom of soreness, white, cuts and blistering the lady I was seen by today said I don't have L S.  When I went mid November after my GP referred me because of soreness etc the male gynaecologist said I had L S worried me sick about VIN and said I needed a biopsy, I look back and it was his whole manner that wasn't handled very well.  BIopsy was a month later just before Xmas which I found very intrusive, with no follow up biopsy result or anything so in the end paid privately  :-\ who diagnosed me with vestibuladynia and referred back to the lady I was seen by today on NHS.  The private man rang me at home and read the results to me after nine weeks of me worrying about the results he said I didn't have LS either.  I'm quite angry really but have let it go but the man in November shouldn't of scared me so much with such insensitivity and told me to use Dermovate which would apparently show up negative because of using it.   The lady today said I have bad atrophy, and vestibuladynia and need the oestrogen cream, hydromol moisturiser so long as I don't react to it and occasionally betnovate which I have because of excema.  So finally I feel I can move on a bit.  I felt let down by the NHS at that clinic and had to do all the chasing myself.  I didn't get the prescription for the oestrogen today as I would prefer very low dose I just worry about it causing bleeding or something Mmm yet another worry so menopause clinic I go to will deal with me.  I must not read leaflets so much and Google  ::). The lady said nothing looked cancerous or pre cancerous and that the ulceration is because of atrophy.  Just annoyed I have LS then don't.  It all does make me feel old and sorry for myself, sorry but it's my Mams year anniversary since her death and I'm having trouble moving on in my life at the moment without her.  Getting help with it though. I've got to now stop looking down there :)

Everything will feel extra emotional regards mums anniversary be kind to yourself.

I was also originally diagnosed with LS , betnovate etc.

Turned out to be Vaginal atrophy and vestibuldynia , I to had to spend a small fortune as I knew my NHS diagnose was incorrect, and the use of the betnovate made it all worse as it atrophied already atrophied skin.

So I use the estring / vagifem depending how my bits are , YES oil based ready filled viles mixed with multi gyn acti gel , mix into a paste with a cotton bud and is extremely soothing.

I have been on this treadmill for 4 years , and have soureced all my own specialists as I have been very let down by some , but also one amazing NHS specialist.

For me I have had to go onto full HRT for any hope of a happy vulva/ vagina/ bladder.

So good luck with it all , harem trousers are great .

Thank you Maryjane,

Harlem trousers  ;D  yeah my jean days are long gone now.  It sounds the same as your diagnosis.  Glad you are doing well and comfier.  I won't lie when I use vagifem I will wait for a reaction I know I will but I know I have to use it even if it's to try and have my smear test done as at the moment that would be agony.   it was the ulceration I wasn't happy about and wanted it checking out more, I think it's simple reassurance we need something that's a battle to get sometimes. Guinea girl - so pleased to hear you finally have your diagnosis and now see light at the end of the tunnel.
Please don't worry about using the local oestrogen - I would go for Vagifem pessaries and possibly some Ovestin cream to use on the external areas alongside the Vagifem. All the local oestrogen treatments are very low dose and it's highly unlikely to cause any problems with bleeding etc. It could be wise to use Vagifem every day for at least 4 weeks to really get the healing process underway and then reduce to 2-3 times a week after that. Vagifem is the easiest to use so I'd go for that first. The oestrogen creams e.g Ovestin, can be messy and if you are already sore then the creams can irritate.
SYLK and/or the YES products are really good vaginal moisturisers - it's trial and error till you find what works for you.
It may take some time to get things more comfortable. Do keep us posted.  DG x

Thanks Dancing girl,  I will write what you've said down and show the menopause lady when I go, she didn't want to give me anything until the ulcers had been confirmed what they are.  I was just worried about vulvar cancer which the worry has eased now I've had reassurance.  Of course I will keep you posted you have been very kind  :thankyou:

Anyone would think that we are in the 3rd World where women are ruled by men  :bang: ...... there is something Very Wrong across the NHS where ladies are not being listened to and Consultants seem loathe to admit that they don't know about menopause and how it can affect ladies.  Even if initially treatment regime is expensive for a Surgery, once something is found that kind of suits it will mean less visits, surely = less expense  :-\.  Where's the Menopause Society or what ever they call themselves in all this!?!

Let us know how you get on.  I am sure that you will fine on localised HRT.  It never crossed my mind that it would cause me problems, anything to get rid of the feeling of razor blades up there was essential!

CKLD  - I absolutely agree with you.  So much money could be saved if doctors were more clued up about the meno and how to treat it. DG x
