Health anxiety through three roof !!!!!!
« on: February 20, 2017, 08:57:38 PM »

Hi all been a long time since posting for mebut always checking in.

Due period tomorrow
On Friday night had a bit of a funny turn all hot dizzy and shakey
Was in bed at the time but got up at 2.30 as didn't sleep had a glass of water calmed down a bit then went back to bed and slept for a few hours
Since then I have had a bad head ache tingling tender scalp feeling a bit sick.
I have had this before but not for a lllong time so it has threw me and my anxiety has gone into overdrive I know I'm going to be OK and it's nothing sinister or I wouldn't be writing this post or even standing
So why won't my mind and body realise this it has completely taken over the last few days and the bad head will more than likely go away when and if my period arrives
Hate hate hate health anxiety

Kazzy I can totally understand your HA, I've had a rubbish time lately with all sorts of weird feelings and symptoms!
I have had to give myself a good talking to tonight and hopefully I will learn to just ride it.
I'm due my period next week and always feel unwell before....it's like I take a dip, but it doesn't stop me worrying about every twinge!
Love this forum though , so many helpful comments and advice.

It may not actually be your health anxiety that you're primarily feeling. It could be physical anxiety from your falling hormones which are not in your control, unlike mental anxiety triggered by worrying.

If you just ensure you're not adding in any unhelpful thoughts (such as 'I can't stand it', 'what if...' etc.) then it's just a case of riding it out as you probably are doing quite well already.

Thinking that it's about to pass, as you are, because it is, is great and you're probably coping with this better than you realise!

Hi kazy68

Could it have been a migraine? The dizziness and feeling shaky can be symptoms of prodrome, the early stage of migraine usually before the headache kicks in. The fact that they were followed by headache, tingling painful scalp and nausea would certainly indicate that it is migraine.

Whilst specialists still don't fully understand the migraine mechanism, they recognise that the fall of oestrogen before a period or at any other time in a cycle, can contribute to trigger a migraine in some women. If your oestrogen had fallen that could also have brought on a flush which may account for the feeling sweaty upon waking and feeling as if you were having a funny turn. We seem to experience an adrenaline surge before some flushes which can make you feel alert and anxious and sometimes give you palpitations.

Do you or have you ever suffered with migraine? Peri seems to exacerbate this condition.

I think knowing /recognising what is happening to us makes us much better able to deal with it. It's scary when we don't know what is going on!

I wish you well x

Low blood sugar caused by hormonal upheaval?  Try to keep hydrated and eat often to keep the gut full so that the body doesn't suddenly get hungry = anxiety surges.

...... and breath - I know that it isn't easy!

Oh, and knowing that it's not sinister doesn't over-ride the physicality!  :bighug:
