Back to square 1 on HRT
« on: February 14, 2017, 07:21:57 AM »

Morning all

Well I took the plunge after months of deliberations and went to GP for HRT. Coincidentally I started a period that day so needed medication that day. Trawled around 4 chemists before I found the one she gave me (prempak c low dose). Even then that chemist (large branch of boots) only had one month supply but said they would order in for me
Started taking it that night. Had reservations as read several reviews about bloating and weight gain side effects. Too about 5 tablets and started to bloat. Also read that HRT not suitable for adenomyosis sufferers - I was diagnosed with that 2 years ago. So I stopped taking it. Boots then phoned me to say that medication has been discontinued and GP would be in touch to prescribe alternative. That was 3 weeks ago. Have not heard from GP. Have been feeling awful due to bloating and flare up of  adenomyosis. Have ordered some sage compkex and going to try natural route. Anyone else had similar experiences and any idea why prempak c discontinued?

Thank you. Have a good day.

Can't comment on HRT as I have decided not to go down that line (at least at the moment), but it does sound as if you've had a poor experience with your GP. Wonder if you could back to another GP in your practice and have a talk about your options?

Hi Gill P. I cant take HRT. Not sure why but I have tried 4 different types and end up worse than I was before I started so its clearly not for me. I have been taking Maca Root suppliments since last October and they have played a massive part in lifting my moods and I am no longer getting continual flushing. To try and cut the flushing out totally (hate them cos I have a mini anxiety attack just before the flush!) I have been taking Asda Well Woman tablets for just over 2 weeks alongside the maca root and it has cut my flushes down to pretty much once a day. I still have warm moments but I can live with that! I am 50 and 5 years meno. Sleep has improved massively and gives me more energy. Hope this helps!!

Hi Clare

Thanks very much for the info. I'll have a look into that. Hope it continues to help you too.

Hello Gill
Maybe your GP has forgotten or didn't get the message? I'd try back there myself. Hope it all works out, whatever you do.

Hi Gill P

Oh what a pity your doc gave you the cheapest and most old fashioned type of hRT! While many women still do fine on it, this is not a preparation that most of us on here would recommend because it can be associated with these sorts of problems (bloating). It is the least "natural" HRT to our own hormones as the oestrogen in it is a mix of horse oestrogens (most of which we don't have) and the progestogen is synthetic. The best tolerated tablet HRT is Femoston, so rather than go for all the supplements etc I would suggest trying that one - starting with Femoston 1/10. I'm sorry I can't comment on adenomyosis and HRT and there is nothing in the Health section on this website - so you may need specialist advice here on HRT type should you wish to pursue this and try another preparation. They are all listed under Treatments/HRT preparations (above tabs).

Yes I agree get back in touch with GP!!!

Of course it is also important at this stage to review your diet and lifestyle and start  to make changes to ensure you are in the best of health as you enter this stage in your life - before even considering any supplements.

Good luck and keep us posted with how you are and what you decide!
